OH, THAT’S WHAT YIK YAK IS? ok… I kept seeing it on Facebook lol.

Anyways already switching around classes… I’m probably going to knock off other breadth requirements instead of English because it’s the last semester 2 unit classes count for breadth. Breadth sucks. Plus next year I might be able to get better English classes because my registration time will be earlier.

Haha @Coriander23, I know of people who do that… But my dorm elevator is SO SLOW. It’s slower than hospital ones. So meanwhile, I take 7 flights of stairs… :stuckouttongueclosedeyes:

@preamble1776 Ah, I’m not entirely sure. I think around 18 I need permission from the Dept., but that’s mainly a formality; they don’t want kids taking 21 credits and getting a 2.0. And Calc I–I took it in high school, but I got a 3 on the AP exam…a mixture of not studying/calculator running out of batteries 2 mins in.

Yik Yak is huuuuggggeee here, and it’s freaking hilarious. Some of the stuff people post is derogatory/rude, but it’s mostly alright.

@Coriander23 I live in a 7 story building. If you live on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th floor of the building and don’t use the stairs, we judge you.

@quidditchcat Data structures is difficult. I’m in it now and that class is tear inducing. I can only imagine it would be a nightmare at Cal, but apparently CS gets better after that

@Vctory - I’m taking Calc I too; I might take it pass/fail if its particularly brutal. Our pass/fail deadline is like a three weeks before the semester ends - like our P/F deadline this semester is Thanksgiving. So we have a lot of time to “gauge” our performance in the class before deciding.

Haha, sometimes I judge * myself * as I’m waiting for an elevator that takes longer to arrive than it would for me to just walk. Seven flights of stairs for you guys though, that’s crazy! At least you’ll both be in really good shape by virtue of all that forced exercise. And eek, I’m super relieved I don’t have to take Calc ever again with AP credit. Hopefully you guys will have awesome teachers that make the course a little more bearable!

Are you guys going to school football games? I’m thinking of going to one tomorrow but I haven’t found anyone to go with yet.

@Coriander23 - I’m most likely (~95%) going to take Calc P/F. I have no control over who my professor is unfortunately, because I enrolled in the class before it was determined, so right now its TBA. I can’t drop it though because it’s the only Calc I class that is at a normal time (the rest are on the weekends or late at night) – all other Calc sections are reserved for STEM majors. I’m hoping for it to be my only P/F course in college though - since after this semester I’m just doing major courses, so I can’t P/F any more classes anyways.

Also, my school doesn’t have a football team. LOL. Our best team is the women’s soccer team.

@Violet1996 actually, apparently the third prereq CS class in the series is much harder… but yeah I’ve heard it gets better. What aspects of CS are interesting for you?

lol I’m thinking I might actually go to the Stanford vs. Cal one, because you know, rivalry. (My sister goes to Stanford haha). But… that’s going to be a lot of people. :O

It’s weird because I never went to a football game in high school. Nor do I remember sitting through a whole game in general. But in college it’s fun to go with a group of friends to cheer a team on. It’s hard to explain; most people didn’t get to choose their high school, but since you chose your college you have a certain sense of pride in it.

Our school is not super huge on football, but we have a pretty good record this year. At one of the pep rallys before the game, they took a picture and now I happen to be on our school’s homepage ;)

Well, we lost that one. 6-4 record now, darn Bruins. But it was a lot of fun! I went with a friend and had to sneak into the student section after her because I didn’t have a season pass (only a single-game ticket, which apparently doesn’t qualify you). I’ve never been to a college football game before so it was all very exciting.

The Stanford vs. Cal game sounds really intense. I mean, it’s not called the ** Big ** Game for nothing, right? (can you guys tell I recently discovered font effects) And that’s awesome you got your picture taken! I got used to smiling at the Jumbotron today because it seemed like the camera would zoom in on people right when they weren’t looking, haha.

My dad called and said he saw me and my friends on ESPN during the first game of the season. Haven’t had the opportunity to go to any other games though; I have mock trial practice from 9am-5pm on Saturdays :(

@quidditchcat I like the fact that CS actually teaches us few facts and expects us to use logic to figure out the projects and stuff, it’s pretty cool. I’m not sure what track I want to do though. Robotics sounds cool, as does cybersecurity, software engineering and AI, I’m so confused.

We have a football team but not it’s not very good. But I’ve heard the program’s gotten better in the past few years, so hopefully it’ll be good by the time I graduate.

College is such a strange place. The things I see walking around campus…

omg, so tired… I don’t even know why, I’ve slept a lot (too much) this weekend. @Violet1996: oh… yeah I’m not really sure either… tbh I’m interested in the ones that involve math… like graphics and cryptography, but I guess AI also sounds cool haha. I think I like how CS is hands-on from day one…

I met with my adviser today, and I’m really liking my schedule for the spring:

Tuesday/Thursday:

12:30 - 1:45 Educational Psychology
2:00 - 3:15 Introduction to Speech
(T only) 6:00 - 8:30 Evolution of Jazz

Online:
The Insect Connection
Introduction to Psychology

This gives me 15 credits for the semester. I’m really happy because I only have to drive to school twice a week. I live in the northeast, so the winters can be brutal at times. I have to go to school five days a week currently, and I don’t mind it, but I would like to save money on gas. This will also be my first time taking online classes, and I think it will be a good experience. I want to try something different.

My school requires its students to take six credits of arts, so I have to take a once-a-week music class, but according to Rate My Professor, the professor is awesome, so I may enjoy the class. I’d rather take a music class than a painting or ceramics class.

@NewBeginnings3 -
I’ve been looking at the possibility of taking only Tu/Th classes. I’m a commuter in the Northeast too; so the appeal of only going into class two days a week resonates with me on a spiritual level, LOL. Right now my schedule has one MWF class and 4 TuTh classes. I considered online classes but my scholarship doesn’t cover them. Also - we have a lot of one day a week classes (three hours at night) but they’re in satellite campuses and the subway is seedy at night. So I’m kind of stuck between a “conventional” 5 day a week schedule or a TuTh schedule that is incredibly long (8am to 4pm).

I know some car commuters who have TuTh only schedules. One boy commutes from out of state (God bless him) on a major highway going in the direction of rush hour traffic (towards Boston) so he has a lot at stake when it comes to gas and even just general safety. For me, there’s no real money factor. I spend 75 bucks on a train pass every month - unlimited; so it doesn’t matter if I only go in two days a week or if I go in five days a week, I don’t save money either way. My bed is just a lot warmer than an open air train platform in February.

I’m more than likely going to stick with my TuTh heavy schedule with a single MWF class. I could of course take just 4 classes (like I’m doing this semester) and have a TuTh-only schedule of 4 classes. (9:30 - 3:15) - that wouldn’t be too bad. I’ll have to investigate further. There’s two classes that I HAVE to take on TuTh (there’s no other sections) everything else is up in the air sort of.

I would’ve had to take Intro to Psych on MWF from 3:00-3:50, but I absolutely do not want to drive to school for one fifty-minute class at three in the afternoon. When I heard about the online option, I was dead set on it. I’m not sure if I would mind an eight-hour day if it was only twice a week. It’s tempting!

I could’ve scheduled all my classes for MWF or TR for this semester, but I was worried that it would be too hard. Now, I realize that I could’ve handled a compressed schedule. It’s nice being done early in the day, but having whole days off would be nice, too.

No. One thing that was nice about high school was getting those random holidays such as Veterans’ Day, Presidents’ Day, etc. My school hasn’t had a school day off since Labor Day. I’m looking forward to the week off at Thanksgiving!

My commute is about an hour to an hour and 15 minutes. I’m probably gonna not be super thrilled to make that commute for a 50 minute class three days a week, but I figured that I have a tendency to show up early anyways (like this semester, I’m usually on campus by 7am and my first class is at 9:30) so I’ll just do other things. (eat, mostly.)

I’ll need to see how everything pans out. It is important to note that I am a Political Science major, so a compressed schedule doesn’t involve 3+ hour labs, etc. I’m also doing an exclusively general ed course load - all of which are 100 level courses with the exception of Calculus which I’m taking P/F. I think I can handle it but I don’t wanna make any permanent changes until I’m sure (I had priority registration and a lot of the classes I’m enrolled in are full with wait lists so if I drop one, the spot goes to someone else.)

Currently, I have two classes on TR, which are both an hour and fifteen minutes. I went to my kinesiology class, and we were reviewing for our exam. The review literally took ten minutes, and our professor let us go. Then, my English class was cancelled. I was so mad that I drove to the campus for a ten minute review.

This is a double-edged sword. On one end, it’s nice to have class cancelled and be done early, but on the other hand, I’m paying for it.
