My speech:

So about a day after this thread’s creation, I visited Purdue for Star’s Orientation. I got up way early in the morning (but I was quite ignorance of having to sleep and wake up early). It was basically an hour drive but going there was like coming back to destiny. I got there and I saw many people/students gathered in one place for the first time since I first visited campus. There was like a meeting and they then divided into colleges. Many parents came of course but as we walked into the classrooms they divided the students and parents and basically what we did was mix and mingle and discussed the daily schedule with the Advisor/Presenter. We then left the building and go to a bunch of (academic) events. In truth there was nothing really… “fun” about the day but apparently many people came to like it regardless. It was a final opportunity to explore the campus before moving in. The buses of course was free and followed a loop. There was one loop that day but there will be more during the school year and it’s free to anyone with a student ID.

I’m losing the topic here lol. Anyway as my mom and grandma set out to this paying for Purdue’s event I decided to go alone and get my ID (longest line ever- I should be expecting that more with a school of 30,000+) and sign up and pay $80 for a club. My mom said I did exactly what she wanted me to do (the sign-up club thing). Anyway I get many discounts from that club and I got free stuffs as well. I also signed up for this bank and I can get free cup of pop every Thursdays for the whole year not to mention extraordinary amount of discounts. It’s just nice to know I won’t be throwing away money on random stuffs down there.

After that I met with my advisor at the appointed time and gotten my classes and I literally have no 7:30am classes and only one 9:30 class and two classes on Friday. I’m so psyched because I’m not a waking-up-at-6:30-in-the-freezing-cold person. I naturally wake up around 7/8 am (but I’m not stupid so I’m bringing an alarm clock.)Also I don’t intend to change the time I normally go to sleep at night (around 11-12) because I’ll have the morning to prepare with only the entire campus being a 20 minutes walk.

Overall, I’m looking forward to attending the next orientation-al and exciting week before classes.

BOILER UP!

Just got one of those new mac book airs.

It’s pretty sweet.

^I’m getting a 4th-generation intel PC. They are better than the 3rd generation and much more powerful. Also I can’t play games on a Mac and too expensive (I can get a more powerful PC at the same price).

It fits my needs; I’m not really into gaming.

I needed something extremely portable (the thing in it’s case takes up about the same amount of room as a 1.5 inch binder), long battery life, quick boot-up speeds, that I can take notes on, view powerpoints, make small presentations on, write papers, etc.

Plus I have an older windows laptop that will stay dormant in my dorm with more computing power in case any programs I need don’t run well on my mac, but I doubt that will happen. Apparently the minimum specs for my program at my school only require 512MB memory and 20GB storage, which seems pretty weak for an engineering program.

The new Macbook airs can run almost any game on the market as long as it isn’t on a high graphics/resolution setting, all you have to do is install windows as a virtual machine using parallels 8.

Yeah, I’m getting MacBook Pro Retina 15" after this first semester for Christmas. I’ll still have my previous laptop. It’s just so large and heavy plus I just can’t wait to be able to sync everything.

@Barrk I should just save my time and money and get a pc.
Besides pc already have what I need for the school year.

I’m probably getting a new Macbook Air, but I’m waiting for the back to school event to start. Free stuff.

I got the 13’’ stock model (4GB RAM/128GB Storage/i5 processor) plus a cool sleeve/case thing for it for <$1000 with student discounts. Very impressed so far.

Planning to get the 13in/8GB RAM/256GB SSD/i5 one, so I have to order online.

Hoping to get it this Christmas.

I doubt my mom will let me spend $2,000 on a computer, especially when I tell her where I’m going next summer. :p

Am I the only PC guy on here?

Yes.

I spent most of today planning my schedule and I finally got it to perfection. Now I just have to hope I get the classes (lottery system).

Just a word of advice, the 8GB ram is definitely overkill unless you do a lot of movie and video editing or would need to be working with multiple programs open a lot of the time (if you’re doing this you shouldn’t be getting the air anyway, i’d go with a pro).

For normal college stuff, web surfing, writing papers/making presentations, taking notes, checking email/facebook, etc. the 4GB will be plenty. Even if you do light gaming 4 GB should still be okay.

Also I was (and still kind of am) a PC person, but this new MBA won me over.

Eh. I play games, frequently have 20 tabs open on Chrome in addition to 5-6 different documents open and iTunes, the upgrade is only $90 with the student discount, and I’d like to make sure it’ll be up to speed for the next 4-5 years.

Doesn’t matter to me about the 8gb DDR but I always say better to have more.

I’ll be editing videos weekly or even biweekly so it’s nice to know 8GB would be good for that.

It’s not that I’m not a PC person it’s i want something different. Something and pretty. And the Mac is just that. I wanted the Galaxy S4 because it was different and pretty.

…but it didn’t have iTunes so that wasn’t going to work out.

Yeah if it’s only $90 you might as well. I kind of had no choice since I needed to buy at best buy to get all of the student discounts I wanted, so I had to buy a stock model. I don’t think I’d ever need more though.
