High School Class of 2017

Let's see how many 17ers are on here.

I know it's early, but usually high school course selection starts at around this time, so why not?

Oh God, I feel so old.

Anywho - for all of you in the class of 2017 - I have one bit to share.

Everything you’ve ever been told about High School prior to actually entering High School has been an utter lie.

Oh my, this is early indeed. XD
I’m class of 2015 (rising junior), but I feel like I can share a couple tips about being an underclassman:

Enjoy your freshman year while it lasts. PLEASE. I know this is CC, so my words will probably be lost on many of you, but trust me on this one. Please do NOT start stressing yourself about college/SAT/etc. You have four more years! (Also, you get WAY less homework this year!)

Be prepared to have a major loss of interest in school your sophomore year. As freshmen, nearly all of you are excited/nervous to be in a new place, with new/harder classes, new and old friends, more opportunities, etc. As sophomores, you’re used to everything and get disgruntled that you’re not upperclassmen yet (trust me. Nearly every sophomore in my school-including me-hates this year.) Junior and senior years perk up at least a little, though, because upperclassmen get extended privileges. :)

As much as you can, get your homework done the day it’s assigned. We’re not perfect, obviously, and all of us procrastinate at some point or another. But if I had known how much this method would save time in freshman year, I would have had about 200% less stress. :stuck_out_tongue: I was the ultimate procrastinator freshman year…I still procrastinate nowadays but I’ve gotten a lot better. Now here’s to hoping that the IB will (almost) completely stamp that out of me! XD

Get involved!! Being CCers, you all likely do this already, but it never hurts to make sure. You get ways to relieve stress, make new friends, actually have fun in school, and other stuff like that.

Good luck, rising freshmen, and enjoy yourselves!!

That was my first thought too, Preamble, haha.

Hey, no, I disagree with ElvenRanger - don’t try to subdue your procrastination or shrink it. Perfect it. If you can perfect your procrastination, you get to have ideal grades, and an ideal amount of sleep.

@1Rachel94 - Ha, yeah. I remember being told that no teacher will accept work in High School if it wasn’t written in cursive. Those lying scoundrels.

^lol that way of procrastinating could definitely work for some people, but not for me :frowning:
And yeah! A lot of people told me that same thing, then we all come in and we’re like, seriously? I would say about 5% of the students at my school use cursive.

LOL, I can’t find a single person in my school who can proficiently use cursive - I remember a friend of mine asked what the difference between a cursive capital G and a cursive capital D were… and I had no idea.

Class of 2017? This is a little early…jeez, I feel old now…

Protip–get off of CC and don’t come back until your junior year. Your sanity will thank you.

Tip #2: GRADES MATTER. Don’t slack off and think “I can do it later” or “I don’t need to study”. Freshman year will be your easiest year; get the A’s while you can so you have room to get some B’s later. B’s aren’t a bad thing, but my GPA would be significantly higher if I hadn’t have slacked off and gotten 2 B’s and a C last year. So don’t solely care about getting straight A’s, but don’t get a B in underwater basket weaving just because you would rather play a video game or something.

Now leave this site until 2015 or so.

Don’t listen to people trying to get you to leave b/c were all hypocrites. Don’t slack off freshman or more importantly sophomore year. Join activities u enjoy, not ones that look good. Expect the possibility that you might be a completely different person by sophomore year.

I’m from the Class of '14.

I just wanted to say that this thread is adorable. I can’t wait to see it grow.

Oh my gosh I’m from the class of 2016 and I remember when our thread first started! It wasn’t even a year ago, lol.

Don’t get a B in underwater basket weaving unless it’s AP. Then it’s understandable. AP basket weaving is a killer.

Class of 2014 here. Here are some of my personal tips!

-GET INVOLVED EARLY. Seriously, this is like one of the most important things you can do for yourself. Do you have Ivy League aspirations? A near-perfect SAT score won’t mean much if you weren’t an active part of your school and community. With that being said, DON’T let your academics suffer because of ECs and don’t do something just because it’ll look good on a college application.

-Learn how to study. Thankfully, my classes freshman year were a joke difficulty-wise, so this wasn’t too important for me, but it certainly gets important as you move through the AP-laden fun of high school. If anyone in particular wants some of my study tips, I’ll be glad to share through PM.

-Despite what some people will say here, start preparing for the SAT/ACT, but don’t go overboard or focus on it by any means. I would recommend taking one or both of these tests once during your freshman year to establish a benchmark; most of your preparation for these tests comes from your classes anyway.

That’s really the most important stuff. Don’t spend all of high school so stressed out about college that you can’t enjoy it! Push yourself, but have fun!

Well, I wasn’t procrastinating with this thread!

8th graders are so cute. Class of 2014. Remember to enjoy high school it’s not all about impressing colleges. Do what you enjoy.

Everyone on here is a lot nicer to eighth graders than the previous years haha.

I wish I cared about college in eighth grade. I didn’t even go to a real school in eighth grade.

I’m with Pippa. I remember being in 8th grade and talking with like 5 other kids on here. Then more annoying kids came along and I left CC for the real world. Jk, I’ve never left and I stalk this site. You will all turn into me. Sucks.

Hi! Class of '15 here. My suggestion is to plan out your high school class schedules ASAP and familiarize yourself with what AP’s your high school offers. But, most importantly, get ready for the time of your life: 9th Grade was possibly the best school year of my life and hopefully yours, too :)

I’m part of the lucky class of 2013.

My advice is to learn what your faults are and then accept them. You can only improve as a student if you know where to start. For example, I entered HS as a shy person. I knew I could make friends once I put myself out there. It took several weeks to adjust. Showing my silly, honest side outward lead to the best friends I have today.

On a side note, senior year rocks because the years of hard work makes you appreciate fun times (like a free day in orchestra).
