I thought my days of roaming around CC was over after I graduated HS - until I saw the College Life section on this thread! I don’t know why but that made me happy
I’m commuting, so I don’t really get the full “college experience” - but I’m cool with that.
I chose afternoon classes since I’m not a morning person at all. I’m a bit worried about winter season though, since one of my classes end after 6pm and it’ll be pitch dark by the time I get home… -gulp-
Complete opposite of you @Pancakey, all of my classes except for one are crammed into the morning because I just want to get them out of the way asap haha!
Made it through the first week of college, but it feels like work is already starting to pile up. Anyone else feel the same? On the bright side, it definitely feels like I have way more free time than I did in high school, so I’ve been much more productive.
@metsfanAJM YES. So much work all of a sudden. And I haven’t even really gotten involved with extracurriculars or started my job yet.
And yeah, it’s a lot more free time, but at the same time, it’s not that “free” since there’s always work to be done and we have to make sure we manage our time wisely. It can be deceptive.
I’m really enjoying college so far; slowly getting involved and making friends. I’m enjoying my classes, too, but it’s definitely different from high school.
Well, my first college football experience was seeing my school get blown out by a team who beat them for the first time since 1941. Being at that game was painful to watch. Oh well, on to the next one.
So far I have A’s in all my classes but I’m not sure how much longer that will last. Even thought I was off today, I have a couple projects, a quiz, and a couple problem sets due this week, so it’s going to be another busy week.
Hello, I’ve been in college for about a month now, so I have a question for the rest of you–hoping to get your opinion. Are any of you having a hard time making friends in college? I’ve never had this problem in high school, any sort of social activity, or even summer programs, and now I’m feeling ridiculously alone all the time here. I swear, I’m not anti-social and I joined several clubs and whatnot. I just, I don’t know…
What seems to be the main issue @Calific ? You say you never had a problem anywhere else, so you have experience making friends. Is it hard to balance work and social life? Cause it will take a little while to develop really strong friendships like you had in high school.
@Calific there are a number of threads with tips to address this issue recently that you may want to take a look at. I agree with featheENGR, it takes time to cultivate those relationships, especially if you come from someplace you lived all of your life and had longstanding friends. Just keep putting yourself out there. It will happen.
@Calific I agree with the two above. I’ve been in college for a month as well, also coming from somewhere and while I’ve made many friends, even some good friends, it does take a while to become BEST friends in most cases. Wait until about November or so, then you’ll see how good your friends are.
I got a 93 on my first ever college test in Algebra, and I have the same overall grade in the course. Feeling fantastic, but this only motivates me to do more.
@Calific: I found myself in a similar situation a few weeks ago, but things have gotten a lot better since then: you need to give it time. It’s good that you’re joining clubs - that’s a really easy way to make friends, especially if you participate in their activities. You also might want to consider playing an IM sport if you’re athletic, or just enjoy playing sports. As the above posters have said, if you’re proactive in talking to people and putting yourself out there, eventually the friends will come. Keep going!
@LBad96: Congrats! Glad college is going well for you so far.
Classes are going well and my professors are all fantastic; I’ve made good friends with people on my floor and have gotten involved with some activities around campus, like writing for the school newspaper. Next up, NY Times.
Sounds awesome @CE527M! Glad you guys are all enjoying college.
Just had my first exam (Chem)…I’m not going to say anything until I get the score back, but I felt I did okay. We’ll see though. It’s arguably the biggest weed out class here with average test scores in the 60s, so if I get a B, I won’t complain.
On the bright side, classes are going well overall and I got to do my first TV weather forecast for Campus Weather Service last week :). I’m also going on a canning trip this weekend to raise money for THON (46 hour dance marathon that raised $13 million for cancer research), which I’m really looking forward to.
Just started my 3rd week here at Northeastern, loving it so far! Been super busy between classes and sports/clubs. Signed up for Engineers without Borders, (possibly going to Uganda this summer!), the Outdoors club (doing an intro to climbing this weekend!) and finished my first round of tryouts for the club roller hockey and ultimate frisbee teams. I think I have a good shot at making roller hochey, ultimate frisbee is another story.
As far as classes go, Calc 3 is kicking my butt! Somehow pulled off an A on my first quiz, but the material is really challenging. Even though I’ve spent countless hours in the library already (10 hrs in one day last week), I’m loving it here!
