There are a couple posts in this thread about “slick” phishing e-mails from banks. No bank will EVER send you an e-mail looking for personal info. EVER. It does not matter what the e-mail looks like. In reality those e-mails are so easy to create I know kids with the technical ability to do.

I have no sympathy at all for anyone that falls for a bank phishing scam after all of the publicity surrounding them.

I took the survey. Looked to me like they were doing market research on the effectiveness of banner ads on their site. Asked if you’d ever heard of 5 specific colleges. Just happens that those particular five had been featured in banner ads recently. CAn I have my $250 now? I still don’t know who Point Loma is … and I don’t think I care!

I also took the survey, and actually, I didn’t even think it may not have been legit. I have definitely seen surveys organized by my school from the same company. Also, when I finished it, I clicked “Done” and the main CC site came up. It felt OK to me, in retrospect.

Just wanted to reassure the OP (and anyone else who is leery) that this is indeed a legitimate survey. This is actually the second such survey we have conducted and is designed to give us valuable feedback regarding your experiences on CC, as well as your overall college search experience.

I’d add that only a small random sample of our total membership received the survey, so if you didn’t get one it doesn’t mean we don’t like you! :)

I got it and completed it. It asked me about four specific colleges – how familiar I was with them. I was actually quite familiar with three of the four, and now when I’m on CC, I see their ads all the time!!

But, just so you all are aware, it’s my month to win some money. So go away!

Yes, there are new overlords. CC was bought out by Hobson’s which owns, among other things, Naviance and College View. I think we’ll see more linking between these sites in the future. Did a similar survey on Naviance recently (but no financial incentives dangled at us - phooey).

We all get free service from CC through these forums, but it is supported through the advertising you see here. It would actually help CC maintain advertisers (and thus help keep the forum available) if we actually clicked through occasionally. Normally, we all ignore these ads, but once in while, be curious. Check out some schools you’ve never heard of, even if you immediately return to CC. Take a moment and click.

Flame away at me, but we all use CC. It doesn’t take much effort to click to help support it.

I took the survey and was a bit suspicious that of the 5 colleges they asked about, they might have included one ‘dummy’ college that didn’t really exist, just to see how many of us were just clicking “Yes I’ve heard of that one” just to get past the screen and on to our $250 prize money :-)

ucsducladad, the other three were all in my neck of the woods, so that’s how I knew them. I think they were Quinipiac, Hofstra, and something else nearby.

I responded, especially since I have seen surveymonkey in previous surveys. I’m positive it’s legit. Only problem is that since my daughter has already graduated, the questions weren’t as relevant for me.
