College Confidential's Bad Rep

Look up College Confidential on Urban Dictionary. We’re being called elitist and have overexaggerated examples of overachieving kids. And not just there. Huffington Post did an article there too. There’s a warning on multiple sites about how cutthroat the Chance Forums are.

I have found that while there are some mean posters here, they are very few and far between, and a lot of what people consider ‘mean’ are just wake-up calls - telling them that they aren’t a realistic candidate instead of coddling them and saying they have a good chance of getting in. In that scenario, they apply and find that - surprise! - they were rejected and wasted some $85, which could have been used to apply to a more realistic school or heck, even tuition money.

Is this just the more realistic perspective I’ve gotten from (harsher) past experience, or is CC really that cruel and I’m too jaded to realize it?

I don’t know why anyone wastes their time asking random people to “chance” them. The silliest posts offer to “chance” respondents back.

If one asks focusedquestions on CC, I find one usually gets reasonable advice quickly.

Oh, you mean the definition that was posted 10 years ago by a student that probably wanted to get into Yale…
