I have been accepted to both Purdue and Rutgers with scholarships form both. Purdue will cost about 25,000 ( probably 16,000 of this will be loans) and Rutgers 14000 ( no loans). I wish to major in aerospace engineering. I was wondering if the caliber of Purdue's program is worth that amount of loans. I would really like to hear the imput of anyone out there who is in the major or the field.

You may want to re-title this “Which is a better choice for aerospace engineering” and then post it in the Parents Forum.

16k is within the limit of what many parents would considerable do-able, as it is basically the Staffords and Pells. However, almost every engineering student that I’ve ever met has taken 5 years to finish because they have trouble with one or more of the intro. classes, or they change from aerospace to mechanical, or some other reason. Rutgers may be a better choice if you are in-state because you won’t need any loans for the first 4 years which puts you in a better position to pay for that possible 5th year.

Rutgers. That saves you almost 40K over 4 yrs.
