I would love to hear how this all turned out and where your daughter decided to attend. My daughter has very similar goals and we are just starting to do research on which schools to consider.

I second what diglass said above. Quesera10 we would love to hear what your daughter finally decided. My daughter is a rising senior and the schools you mention are also her top choices.

Eugene Lang has a good [dance program](http://www.newschool.edu/lang/courses-subpage.aspx?id=24400) in New York

Update - My D had a good audition and interview for LINES but was not accepted academically into Dominican. For Juilliard, she did not make it past the first class, which was a huge disappointment as she felt crowded being stuck in a corner. After the Julliard rejection, I encouraged my D to apply to a few other schools and she was able to submit last minute applications to Purchase College and Boston Conservatory, both of which we felt were strong conservatory style programs. I was elated that she was accepted into both of these programs, however, she is holding out for Fordham/Ailey. Since she applied as a transfer student, we are still waiting for a final decision. Having applied to Fordham in October, I feel that this has been the longest wait in history!

Hi Folks,

I`m looking for some assistance…

We are based in Scotland and my daughter would like to further her dance career by studying in the US rather than the UK after visiting my son who is currently studying at Lindenwood Univesity MO.

Unfortunately my daughter is more of an artist than an academic and will struggle to gain a high enough SAT to gain entry to her brothers school or a 4 year school in general. Therefore I am looking for some pointers for top Junior College programs that she can apply to…

My daughter has been a junior and senior associate with the Scottish Ballet Company and has passed all her Royal Academy ballet exams up to Advance 2 with distinction grades, all her ISTD Tap exams with A passes to advanced level 1. She has also performed in various professional shows over the last 6 years and won a UK wide talent show.

Any information that can help us make informed choices that will give her the level of program she needs to continue her training would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Assuming your daughter is going to focus on schools with auditions, I would suggest considering SUNY Purchase, Marymount Manhattan College, Point Park University, and Boston Conservatory. These are schools are probably more forgiving in terms of grades and SAT’s.

Another thought would be SUNY Brockport.

Tscodance, if your daughter’s interested in proximity to her brother, University of Missouri Kansas City has a very well regarded ballet based program. Is ballet her interest? You could look at the ballet based programs at Indiana, Butler, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Oklahoma, Utah, and SUNY Purchase.

Also, check out Pace University in New York City. It may not be the path your daughter wants to take if she intends on becoming a principal in a company one day, but you should check it out nonetheless! :)

Look into Dance at Wake Forest. Though I don’t think they are well known for it, my daughter says it is an excellent program. They also have a dance scholarship you can apply for.

Butler is very ballet focused - and the report from a friend’s dgt who audtioned there was “they embrace anorexia very much.” She is an incredibly thin person herself and for her to comment on that spoke loads in my mind. but with that in mind, they do have a great program. My dd looked at Ball State in Indiana and was not to impressed with their program. I have heard wonderful things about University of Indiana - Bloomington campus and their dance department but academically I heard it was difficult to get in. Oklahoma City University has a wonderful dance program.

The waiting can be unbearable!! hang in there – somehow it all works out.

Several years ago my daughter did not make it past the first cut of Juilliard but was accepted to Fordham/Ailey and NYU Tisch etc and danced professionally with Louisville Ballet. I would also highly recommend NYU Tisch School of the Arts and you might consider University of Arizona. Pace is a great option too. I definitely have known college dancers who have danced professionally after college. Some schools have a three year track as well like NYU Tisch and Indiana. Always good to have a few “safety” schools.

Just giving this thread a little nudge. I am looking for thoughts on dance programs that are either triple-track or have a jazz concentration. U of Arizona and Point Park come to mind. Also if anyone has experience with collegiate dance teams I would love to hear about it!

UARTS is a triple emphasis program as well and has a jazz concentration. You could also look at Pace, which also has a commercial jazz program. Shenandoah University markets their program as a triple emphasis and there is the potential to take a lot of jazz, but there is no jazz concentration.

Pace University in NY has a BFA in Commercial Dance, that includes ballet, modern, jazz, tap and hip hop. It is a new program but the faculty and director are excellent and I hear it is quickly becoming very competitive!

pmcolorado - very competitive is an understatement. At D’s Pace audition, we heard they are probably going to have around 400 audition for 36 spots. We are not holding out hope for that one.
My D is also looking at SUNY @ Buffalo, Alabama, Muhlenberg, and Barnard.
Her criterea was that they have well rounded dance programs, along with strong Musical Theater, plus are good fits academically. Barnard is the only one that doesn’t exactly meet those criterea, but is by far her favorite.

So glad to have found this feed! DD is strong student and student dancer. She has her sights on DUKE for the moment, but she is very young to be mapping it all out. Yet- in the pre-professional ballet world they start young. We are receiving offers to train and study. We are in that dilemma of strong academics for “after career” while thinking to take a shot at professional companies. Where are the students of dance today? Have they been successful in balancing both?

My DD just signed a contract with a ballet company after 2 years at UArts. She also received offers from 2 other companies so the tide is definitely changing in the ballet world. Companies want dancers with a little more training and maturity from what I can tell.

The BFA program at Pace University (<a href=“Commercial Dance, BFA | Pace University New York”>http://www.pace.edu/academics/undergraduate-students/majors-minors/commercial-dance-bfa) with an exclusive blend of the highest quality of professional dance training and theater studies. In addition to working on the disciplines of ballet, jazz, modern, tap, contemporary, aerial arts, and other dance, you will be prepared for a professional career on stage, television, and commercials by training with current working professionals in acting, vocal studies, and technical theater.
