College Decision Help!!!!

I want to become a lobbyist and major in political science, my choices are Texas A&M University or George Mason university. Both good schools but A&M has a higher ranked program and overall better school. While George Mason is right next to Washington D.C and has great connections when it comes to internships and has a more specific curriculum for what I wanna do. But I still want to get my masters after undergrad.

Do you qualify for instate tuition for either one of them?

If money’s not an issue, I’d say that George Mason’s location really can’t be beat.

I have qualified for instate tuition for both of them. But I currently live in tx and love A&M but i dont know if its worth me staying here if GMU can offer more

In my personal experience, I was very underwhelmed by George Mason. The tour I took focused purely on the sciences and the information session was fluff. I’m sure they have a good program since they’ve very big, but they didn’t try to highlight it. Also it’s half an hour from D.C., which doesn’t seem like a lot but it’s a very different atmosphere. Have you looked at American U at all?

My best friend’s sister goes to A&M and she loves it as well!

I got the same vib from GMU and I got accepted to AU but its too expensive. So my choices are narrowed down to A&M and GMU. But its tough, I do love A&M but George Masons location is key

You can get summer internships in the federal govt or lobbying firms in DC from any school in the country. The DC schools have the edge only in school-year internships, and if you go to GMU companies will expect that you’ve done internships with the feds and lobbyists if you’re going to major in politics.

Well I plan to intern during the semester and summer. I want to be the best possible candidate.

There are federal offices spread throughout the country, but there are more of them here in DC so I think your interest in GMU is appropriate. I’d suggest that you ask GMU about the percentage of students who live in residence halls, the percentage of kids who stay on campus on weekends, what kinds of weekend activities are available to the students. GMU has a reputation as a commuter school that it is trying to overcome. They recently built a new dorm, for instance. They bring all kinds of non-school activities to the Patriot Center, their basketball arena.
