I’ve noticed that you qualified as a finalists two years in a row, so I was wondering if you could give me some advice on trying for the camp and potentially IBO next year.

for me, I haven’t taken ap bio class yet but is going to next school year. however, I am going to read the campbell book over the summer. so is this all I should do or should I find more resources?

Hi all,
So apparently, everyone just reads Campbell over and over. Does anyone know if it makes that much of a difference which edition?
e.g. the latest is the 8th–would it be okay if we studied out of the 7th? (It’s just a lot cheaper to buy.) Or all they all pretty much the same?
Thanks!!

They really don’t change much between editions. I seriously doubt the slight slight differences in material matter when compared to really knowing the rest very well. If you don’t do well, it’s because you didn’t know it well enough, not because of those little things. A newer edition doesn’t affect how much work you put into the material that you do have.

I’ve actually felt like just reading over multiple upper level bio textbooks (such as a short plant biology textbook, the first 4-5 chapters of an immunology textbook, molecular biology of the gene, anatomy + physio textbook, etc) helps much more than completely memorizing and understanding Campbell. Dunno, only if you have lots of extra time

You can try taking practice bio GRE tests, but the material there doesn’t adequately cover most of the stuff on the test. If you know the material well, and have some analytical ability, the questions are straightforward. Just don’t make it up to be too big of a deal. USAMO’s much more prestigious anyways. =p
