College dorm options?

I got accepted into my top school over the weekend. Now I need to put my first payment down and pick my preferred housing. I can choose between traditional and suite style. The traditional are super old and didn't interest me in any way when I visited. I think community bathrooms are nasty. The suites are gorgeous and they're a lot like home. It's carpeted and comes with a fridge, a bathroom in the room, and doing laundry is free. It's obviously more money which is the only downfall. Also.. although it's a "suite", there are still multiple types of rooms. It can be the typical 1 room, 2 bed dorm, only difference is your own bathroom. Or it can be 2 rooms with a total of 4 people living in there. I'd probably go with the one for 2 people.

The only thing I'm worried about is not getting to associate with enough people if all the other freshman choose traditional and I don't.

What are your experiences with either type of dorm? Any opinions on this are welcome!

Having lived in both long ago I recommend traditional hall style for freshmen. You prop your door open and when others are leaving as a gang for meals you just join them. You meet a lot more people faster. The hall bathrooms are cleaned by staff every day. The shared suite bathrooms you either have to share cleaning with your mates (yeah right) or schedule a janitor once a week. Some schools don’t provide the TP or cleaning supplies for suites. A suite works better when you can choose the mates you share it with. If it’s a bunch of strangers there’s a temptation to “gang up” on the suite mate who lives differently from the rest, say goes to bed earlier or studies more. With a hall style you only have one or two roommates to deal with. With a suite you have to agree on cleanliness of the living area and bath. Just my opinion.

Congrats on your acceptance! Good luck.
