I’m not even sure what it’s supposed to look like, what the format is, or if there is any prompt. So my question is, how do you write a college essay? What would be beneficial for you to include in their? Should one make-up an experience, or use a real, less-exciting one? There is just too much to ask about it…
I’m preferably looking to attend to places such as UC Davis or UC San Diego, so feedback from students who got into there would be especially nice (not that others cannot reply).
You write essays based on Common App prompts. Choose one of it that you most want to write about. DO NOT make up experiences, cuz it will sound generic and not genuine. Just be yourself. Be sincere. Unless you do drugs, then don’t.
I’m looking at UCLA and Berk. Good luck! PM me if you have more questions. I’ve done hours of research.
@pnguon if you did hours of. research you would lnow that the UC’s do not use the common application and they have their own application and prompts.
Describe the world you come from — for example, your family, community or school — and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations.
Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?
Here are the 2 prompts:

I checked UC Davis’s website and there seems to be a third prompt, is that one required as well? If it’s optional, is it beneficial to write that essay as well?
What is the third prompt? When my son’s and niece applied over the last 3 years, there was no third prompt listed. Are you sure you are not looking at the 2nd prompt required by transfer applicants instead of Freshman? All UC applicants have to address prompt 1 but transfer applicants have a different prompt for #2.
Transfer prompt:::
What is your intended major? Discuss how your interest in the subject developed and describe any experience you have had in the field – such as volunteer work, internships and employment, participation in student organizations and activities – and what you have gained from your involvement.
I don’t think it’s a true prompt but it’s listed as a 3rd prompt:
All applicants: If necessary, you may use this space to tell us anything else you want us to know that you have not had the opportunity to describe elsewhere in the application.
This is an additional comments section where you can address reasons for low grades due to extenuating circumstances, if not noted in your essays, additional classes you may have taken that are not listed in the course section or further elaboration on some of your EC’s.
