I'm writing the UC prompt 1 essay about what world i come from
but a question just in general..
is it bad or good to start the essay with a quote?
is it too cliche?
thanks!

Not a horrible idea. As long as you REALLY apply the meaning of the quote to your essay. Don’t just put it at the top of the paper, and leave it.

Worry about WHAT your essay will say, not how you’re going to say it. Admissions staff aren’t looking for essays that will win the Pulitzer Prize, they are looking for essays that will explain to them why you should be accepted.

why don’t you write it like how you want to, and then have a lot of people read it to see whether or not it works? then you can adjust accordingly to the feedback that you get.
