College Essay!!!

Most of the common app colleges on my list specify the number of words for their supp essay(s). However, a couple (namely Bowdoin and Haverford) do not say how many words their essays must be. I'm probably wasting time concentrating on the number of words to write, but I don't want to make it too long or short, so I'm just going to assume 300-500 words. If anyone has experience with this, please correct me.
Haverford wants to know how their honor code will affect me, help me grow, etc.
Bowdoin has two choices: 1. Write a letter to my future roommate explain my personality, beliefs, values, etc.
2. What do I do for fun?

(This on the the "College Admissions" forum too.)

I just finished the Bowdoin letter. I made it about a page long, 522 words by the counter thingy on Word. My concern is that the tone is too lighthearted, possibly irreverent, but that's kind of inevitable with the prompt....anyway, I'd go with 3/4 to a page of type. Just keep it flowing. Some of the shortest essays word-wise can be looooong to read.
