Ambiguous

Most of the common app colleges on my list specify the number of words for their supp essay(s). However, a couple (namely Bowdoin and Haverford) do not say how many words their essays must be. I'm probably wasting time concentrating on the number of words to write, but I don't want to make it too long or short, so I'm just going to assume 300-500 words. If anyone has experience with this, please correct me.

Depends on the question. If it's like "Name a professor at Bowdoin that you'd like to study with and explain why" then it's obviously calling for 150-250 words. But if it's more along the lines of "First experiences are defining. NAme a first experience you've had and explain it's significance to you" is calling for 500 words. Use your best judgement.

Haverford's essay topic is on how their honor code would help me grow or chnage.
Then Bowdoin has two choices: 1. Write a letter to your future roommate describing your personality, ideals, vaules, etc. 2. What do you do just for fun?
Based on the topics I'm assuming around 400 words, give or take.
