What do I need to send to a college other than what is listed on their site? Essays? Recommendation letters? What?

Any replies are appreciated,

Nothing. You submit what they ask for. That’s why colleges go to lengths to provide checklists and specific instructions. The vast majority of colleges in the US want neither essays or rec letters. You just need to see what your colleges desire.

So whats the point of a recommendation letter? And why am I hearing about people writing essays to get into schools?

The point of a LOR is to give information about the applicant beyond a grade.

Colleges vary in the factors they consider for admissions; some are numbers based, others take additional information into consideration (LORs, essays, ECs, etc.).

As T26E4 says, just follow the instructions on the college website and you’ll be fine.

The point of the recommendation letter is that some schools require it (Harvard). Some don’t(CSU). At some it is optional (USC). So find out what the college wants. It will be listed on the website. Also look at the application, if there are essays required it will be there. But that is usually listed on the website also. Here is a sample of requirements for one college:

Good Idea.

So I have pretty much narrowed it down to everything that is on their page PLUS essays LOR and ECs

What do you mean “PLUS essays LOR and ECs”? If it’s not spelled out on their webpages a) they don’t need it, b) they don’t want it c) they aren’t going to look at it.

No. It’s everything on their page. That’s it. Nothing else.

One of the schools I am TRANSFERRING to ( remember I am a transfer student in community college now looking to transfer out) Stanford requires an essay. but I am going to send them all their own personal essay and everyone is going to get at least one LOR.

How do you expect people to ‘remember’ something that you never stated?

I’m moving this to the Transfer Students forum.

It doesn’t matter if you’re applying to S or any other school in the nation, just look at their website and do what it says. Each school is different, you’ve been told that multiple times now but you insist in doing the same thing for each school. WHY?

Do you have experience with transferring, so I can back up your thoughts?

Very good idea, it’s important that you assess the input you get, emphasis on YOU. Here are some things you can do:

Look at the title below the member name, look at the number of posts, go to the member’s Profile and read some of their threads/posts.

To answer your question: I was a transfer and have a kid who transferred.

Why your question is unnecessary: Because there is absolutely no difference between fr and transfer admissions in the fact that:

Colleges vary in what they want you to submit.

You follow the instructions that each college gives on their website.

What school did you transfer, if you do not mind. So what did you do in order to transfer? (GPA req, essays etc?)

CCC to UCB, but you probably don’t want to know what I did, because that was before the last ice age

“but I am going to send them all their own personal essay and everyone is going to get at least one LOR”

I really feel that you should do more research as to what documents and requirements colleges request in your transfer application because I don’t get the sense that you actually know what’s going on. Lots of colleges, including Stanford, have you use the Common Application to apply. So while you can create alternate versions of your Common App essay, there are only so many versions you can create/submit. Schools have their own “personalized” questions in the form of a supplemental on the Common App. And I don’t know about your other schools, but for Stanford at least, you’re going to need TWO recs.

what are “recs”?

recommendation = rec = LOR

Oh wow sorry im a noob thanks for the info
