Hey CC!
I’m a first generation applicant, so this whole application seems overwhelming.
I decided to tackle it section by section, allowing me to have enough time to best present myself.
So I decided to start with essays…
I know that each individual college’s essay topics are release sometime next month, which all i gotta do is wait.
But for the common app essay topics…I heard different suggestions from different people which addle me…
Some said that common app essay topics are changing next year or for my class (class of 2016)? whereas some said its same every year and I just gotta google “common app 2015-2016 essay topics”…
The common app will be available August first, but the essay prompts were released a few months ago. My college counselor emailed them to me so here you go:
- Some students have a background, identity, interest or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, them please share your story.
- The lessons we take from failure can be fundamental to later success. Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
- Reflect on a time when you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted you to act? Would you make the same decision again?
- Describe a problme you have solved or a problem you would like to solve. It can be an intellectual challegne, a research query, an ethical dilemma-anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could take to identify a solution.
- Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.
The word limit is 650 I’m pretty sure. Good luck!
