Essay Topics

I'm trying to write all the college application essays during the summer so that I can be done with them when the school starts.

The thing is though, most of the colleges don't have essay topics for this year yet.

However, all of them have essay topics from previous years.

Do the essay topics change each year or not?

Can I just go ahead and write essays according to the topics given from last year?

I mean, I don't want to write tons of essays for no reason if they tend to change every year.

Even if they change a bit every year it is no skin off of your nose to write a couple from last year’s prompts, so that you get the feel of writing this type of essay. When I wrote mine the actual writing bit was easy but to be able to get across all of the points that I wanted to in the roughly 500 words that you are given (and maintaining a good flow and conceptual line) proved to be exceptionally difficult.

Also Common App always lets you pose your own question so you can work on that one and use it.

WHAT?? I thought they had new prompts and improved sheets every year?? you put in your own questions? what? Im confused!

^ There are five prompts to choose from, four of them are given to you but there is always the option to pose a topic of your own if you wish to do so.

Hmm… interesting. Thanks for sharing!

well thanks :)

Does anyone know when or approximately colleges will release the new essay topics?

^^^August 1st!

The essay topics have already been revealed in previews as well as through colleges sending students paper versions of the Fall 2011 Common App. They are exactly the same as last year’s.

Supplementarys too?
