<p>What is the average length for a college essay? I'm writing my Common App essay and I'm not sure what length is appropriate.</p>
<p>It depends upon the school you are applying to.</p>
<p>An example would be the University of California application which has two prompts, 1000 words maximum (can be split any way but each must have at least 250+ words). </p>
<p>Go onto any target school’s website and look at their freshman application specifics.

<p>For the CommonApp i think the average paper is about 2 pages. My own essay is 800 words, or 2 pages and a third</p>
