college grades kill transfer possibilities?

Gibson,
I just edited my previous message. PLEASE read the entire new message and consider everything I have said carefully. Good luck to you!

gibson - I think a valuable exercise for you would be to compose a post for this thread which summarizes what you've learned from the advice provided. Much time and effort has been devoted to you by the parents here. They want you to succeed in your quest. But I'm not sure I've noticed much adaptation in your plans to what you've heard here. We don't want to see you back here in four to six months in a similar dilemma to the one you are in currently.

Would you consider my suggestion to carry out that exercise?

I would rather go to a place like Monmouth where I am sure I will get great grades while I am looking at other schools.

Since you are sure you will get great grades at Monmouth, probably by virtue of what you believe to be the lower rigor of the classes there, you may want to consider that schools to which you want to transfer may also recognize the rigor of these courses and may take that into account when reviewing your transfer application. In short, you aren't likely to be able to "fool" your way into a transfer admission. carolyn's suggestions have been excellent, and you may want to take jmmom's valuable advice to summarize your plans and what you've taken from this thread. Good luck!

Let me start out by saying that I am truly thankful for everyone on these boards. You guys may not see it through my posts, but I take everything mentioned into consideration. Also, since writing is not one of my strong points, I may not have clearly articulated my true feelings and personality. I have taken the time to re-read every post of this thread and have given some thought to what I really want to do. I will try to lay out where I am at this point in time.

---What I know---

I want to leave Lehigh ASAP(I have already filled out the papers)

I will leave here with 13 credits and around a B average.

I want to get to a school good in business and in a city.(I really like Boston)

I will get very good grades at Monmouth.

I do not want to stay at Monmouth longer than I have to.

I feel like I am missing out on the fun college, which is why I want to get
to one of the schools mentioned throughout these posts(BU, Northeastern...and others I will be looking at over the winter and spring)

I truly regret only applying to one school last year, as now I have nothing to fall back on and must go through the applictaion process again.

I am very grateful to have you guys as a resource. A lot of times I think that I don't always listen to what I don't want to hear. I just hate not knowing what my college career is going to consist of.

Thanks again to everybody. I am just trying to get through this as best I can while hearing from all my other friends about how great a time they are having at their schools. I want to be at the point where I am happy with the school I am at and the place I am living. Thanks again.

Any last words of advice?

Just this: know that we're here for you if you need to get advice, help or just want to vent. And, while it may not seem like it right now, I believe that things have a way of working out for the best. Years from now, you'll be looking back at this and seeing this as a positive change in your life. Best of luck --- and again, keep in touch, we're all rooting for you!

gibson, just one thing I'm curious about...unless I missed it I don't recall you mentioning how your parent(s) feel about your transfer.

Anyway I admire you for doing what you feel is the right thing. Being able to recognize you made a mistake, then taking steps to correct it...in the end I too have no doubt things will work out for the best and you'll actually be stronger for it. You may have to be patient but that will make you appreciate things all the more. And sometimes it's good if things don't fall perfectly into place...as you know not much in life really does.

good luck, and I hope you can continue to post...we'd like to see how you make out, plus you can be a help to others.

Hey guys!

It's been a while since I last posted and I have an update. I finally got my first semester Lehigh grades. Overall I have a 3.14 with 14 credits. I have an A-, B+, B, B- and a W. Maybe you guys will be able to give me a more solid assessment of schools I could get into given this new information. I also have letters of rec coming from my business prof, the dean of students, and my music prof. I will be attending Monmouth U this spring with a 14k scholarship thanks to my high school stats. I am pretty set on trying to get to Boston by next year. Northeastern and BU are really the only schools I plan on applying to at this point. Although what I have been reading about the grade deflation at BU has somewhat scared me off. Northeastern's co-op program is very appealing to me. If you guys could suggest city schools with decent business programs along with my chances of getting in as a transfer for fall of '06, now that you know my college grades, that would be awesome. If you guys have anymore questions, feel free to ask. Thanks a lot.
