I have not applied to any colleges yet, but I have a question. If I apply to a school across the country, and they want me to do an interview, is there any way to do the interview without travelling across the whole country?

Many colleges offer alumni interviews, with alumni in your city or area.

Go to the college websites, they will address how they conduct interviews, if they do at all. Please note, the weight of alumni interviews is tiny except in a few extreme cases.

This is just one example, but my friend had a Harvard interview where he lives in CA. It isn’t necessary to have interviews for most schools though I don’t think so it probably won’t be an issue. Good luck!

entomom is right, “the weight of alumni interviews is tiny except in a few extreme cases.”

You really don’t need to worry about that Jimbo92! And also if ever the college gives you an interview, they usually have to send an alumni who resides nearby where you live.
Although we are from overseas, my child had an interview from a UPenn and Dartmouth alumni (americans) but they live and worked here in our country.

I was reading about how Wake Forrest does interviews, and if they say you need an interview, first choice is to come to WFU, second is a skype chat and third is a phone call or something along those lines. Bottom line is no they don’t require you to come visit them if its not going to be easy.

Skype is usually fine, or you will be interviewed by a rep in your town. Our students in Thailand meet with alumni or representatives over skype because its impractical to fly to the US to visit schools.
