So i’m having my college interview on friday. Does anyone know exactly how important it is? Should i dress casually? What kind of questions do they ask?

Although I am no expert my suggestion is to dress business casual. Something like khaki pants and nice sweater or blouse etc. Most alumni interviewers will tell you in their e-mail invite or on the telephone that it is casual so don't over dress. Also be comfortable and not nervous - they only want to get to know the real you and that can't be rehearsed.

the interview's importance differs from school to school.. you could probably look into that
no, don't dress casually, but don't completely dress up.. somewhere inbetween. suggestion would be business casual. remember, first impressions are pretty important..

usually interviews should be more of dialogues than question answer.. be prepared with why you want to attend the school, how you will contribute to the school, what defines you/sets you apart, think through your extracurriculars, and think about what you want for your future... provide examples to support what you say, not just direct statements, as is the case with most essays and stuff anyway

good luck!

Gauge your dress by where you'll be meeting - if it's a fancy law office or bank, you should dress up more than if it's a coffee shop. By and large, business casual is safe for all but the most formal environments.

It's a hospital, so i'm not sure.

I just had my third college interview today. For all three, I dressed relatively casually and was received very well. I think people make much bigger a deal out of the way you dress than they should. Most likely, your interviewer will not even notice unless you are 1) wearing sweats, 2) barely wearing anything, or 3) wearing a prom dress or something. Basically, unless you look like a total bafoon, it's not that big of a deal. Dress to match your personality, it's what I did. I'm not a very formal/dressy person, and I'm generally very laid back and I dressed that way.

Good luck in your interviews, though you really shouldn't need any :P

Thanks for everyone's advice.

That's exactly how I am, and that's exactly how I dressed. The interviewer didn't seem concerned. I don't think he noticed or even cared. We interviewed in some old dump college "Harvard on the Hill" near my house (before a college fair started)--the school he was representing is RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology).

Is this a doctor you are meeting? What is the interviewer's position and is it a big hospital or a community hospital? I am an administrator and clinician at a hospital and, obviously, a Mom. Avoid too casual a look to make any possible interviewer comfortable taking you to the cafeteria or showing you around. If male, wear something like khakis and a collared shirt, if female avoid anything too baring or casual. There is still a bit of propriety around the hospital although certainly not for everyone or everywhere, and some coverup casual clothes with white jackets! Good luck with the interview!
