I agree. I went to a competitive high school, and I couldn’t get my GPA over 3.00. Now? I’m attending a UC, and it’s a breeze. I’m taking overload on units every term and I currently have a 3.6+ GPA. I think the main reason why college is so much easier is that there’s less emphasis on HW and more on tests and exams. You’re graded based on your actual understanding of the material rather than how much effort you put, like in high school. I’m the lazy-but-smart type, so this new system works perfectly for me.

@quite jaded and all IB people - Is college really that easy after this? I’m dying in the IB program right now, so at least I’m prepared!!

It all depends on your future college.
If you are lucky enough to get into Chicago, Cal Tech or MIT, then I seriously doubt that you will have easier time in college.

In high school, there was a lot of busy work (if not busy work, just a lot of homework and problem sets from all seven of my classes which was due the next class period in two days) and you gotta factor in the usual projects every other week and there you have it.

In college, some professors assign homework and some don’t (but most don’t), so the majority of your time is spent studying.

But I do agree that I find the college level academics less stressful and “easier” than college, but that being said, I did wayyyy better in high school grade wise than in college.

College had definitely been easier for me, but I think it’s because it suits my personality better. I’m not someone who needs a lot of teaching to help me. I prefer reading the book or googling the information as I’m doing homework, so spending a lot less time in the classroom means I’m using my time much more efficiently.

In high school, I was in classes from 7-3 every day with about an hour’s worth of break for lunch, and then had cheerleading or field hockey from 4-6 and then I’d have 2-3 hours of homework or more.

In college, I have classes from 8-12 with 1-2 hour breaks, I work M/W/F from 12:30-5:00, but I can do homework while I’m there most of the time. My classes give out a lot less homework and less emphasis is placed on homework and I just like that better and I’m doing better.

I’m a lot less stressed and my grades are way better. And I’m in some challenging courses. (French 309, for example, is typically a junior course. My professor said it’s fairly rare for freshmen to take it.) Some of my classes are extremely easy, but overall, it is college and for me, high school was just a lot harder.

I also feel college is easier, but it’s because I’m not struggling with my disabilities and social problems as much here. That lets me actually do my work, and I’m doing better in college than in high school.
Plus I can primarily take classes I’m interested in, which helps a lot.
