College Issue about Finacial Aid, any help would be much appreciated. Thank you in advanced!!

Hello thank you guys for your time. I started my freshman year of college at my local state school and finished my first semester with a 3.2ish gpa. I transferred my second semester to a bigger state school(OSU) away from home because I wanted to get the real college experience. Before I left for college I got charged with a dui which is still in the process for court. I had to come home for court more than a few times, and also came home for a death of a close family friend. This really affected this semesters gpa where I have a b, passed my survey, know I’m gonna fail one class, and maybe another cause depending on the curve. it was hard staying on task with court and possible jail in the back of your mind. I’m meeting with my advisor next week so explain my situation and get help cause you need a 1.8 to maintain federal funding which I don’t think I will get. If I appeal my federal funding and it gets denied can I go back to my university before I transferred here and still get federal funding?

Unfortunately, your GPA would go with you. You still would not meet guidelines for federal funding. Your best option is to figure out how to attend for a year without aid and get the GPA increased. Perhaps there is a community college within commutable distance from home?

Or attend for at least a semester and get your grades up. Talk with your GC and FA advisor about the options.

Is this a real post???

What parent would let their kid start another school for the “real college experience” when the kid just got a DUI? Not only were there legal issues to deal with from afar, but the student couldn’t be trusted to handle the “real college experience.”

The 1.8 is for the first academic year. You will have to ask if they average your semester with the previous one at the other college. But you also have to have 67% of hours attempted and that is also reviewed annually. You need to start doing something right now to fix your situation because you will have to describe steps taken if you attempt an appeal.

If you return to your first college, you will have to look up the SAP definition, as in the link above, and if it is the same you will have the same problem, but each colleges is a bit different.
