I have a bunch of random schools I have researched and I like. Yet, I don't actually know which are my safeties, matches, reaches and which ones I shouldn't bother to apply to.

I would say you have a legitimate shot at all the schools you listed. You should still cut a good amount of them off your list.

Bump 10char

Bumpity bump bump? :(

You can look up admit rates and average test scores on some of the college ranking sites (US News, stateuniversity.com, princeton review). You can get more details in the Common Data Set files posted on many college sites. Naviance can be helpful, if your school has access.

The following thread might help you:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/687793-selectivity-ranking-national-us-lacs-combined-usnews-method.html

The schools on your list that are most selective, according to Papa Chicken’s formula, are Michigan (#45) and UVa (#50). Someone with your stats should have a decent “low reach” shot at those 2 schools and a better shot at all the others. If any of your schools are not on Papa Chicken’s list, and if you can afford them, then they probably are low match or safety schools.

Most people don’t need more than one or two true admission & financial safeties. You also can cross off any schools you don’t prefer to affordable, less selective schools.

Can you afford $50K+/year for school? You would be full pay for UMich and Penn State (and most other OOS public Us).
