College Major

I just began college as a freshman at a local community college and am nervous about the major I decided on (Emergency Medical Sciences). Does anyone have any advice?

Does it certify you as an EMT?

If it does, and you want to do that sort of work, sounds like a good path. I heard it’s pretty easy to get an EMT job if you have the credentials/certifications, but heard the pay is low.

Either way, it’s a very noble job.

If you don’t want to be an EMT, it would be good for jobs as a Firefighter or Police Officer.

After you get your Associates Degree, maybe looking into the military to be a medic or Navy Corpsmen. I have a close friend that is a Special Forces Medic and he’s the coolest dude I know. He actually taught me how to neutralize a rattlesnake bite with a stun gun, I mean…how cool is that?

In the meantime, maybe look into Volunteer Fire Departments to start getting you some experience in the emergency field.

If you wanted further education nursing would be a good path. I’d think Emergency Medicine and Nursing would set you up well to be a ER Nurse.

OR, I’m completely wrong about what this degree is and just gave you a bunch of crappy advice.
