Hi everyone! I'm new to CC, and this is my first post ever. I'm pretty much completely lost right now. I have no clue where I want to go to college, and I'm not sure what colleges and universities I should be looking at. I live in PA, and even though I'd rather go out of state, in state is okay too. Public or private doesn't matter either.

GPA:4.1
Class Rank: 31/366

I'm taking two college biology classes offered through my high school, but other than that I've taken all college prep courses. I've also taken 4 years of Latin.

I feel so inferior to everyone on CC. Everyone takes so many AP courses, and has such high SAT scores.

My SAT's weren't great. My math score was actually really low, but I didn't know I could write in the test booklet (Oops!). I'm retaking them in October, so I know my math score will improve.

Reading:610
Math:510 :/
Writing:630

I've been a member of my schools Red Cross Club since 10th grade. In 11th grade I became Vice President, and will be again my senior year. We run blood drives, food drives, beauty drives, and also put together a mock accident before prom every year.I'm also a member of the blood drive committee. I've volunteered at a soup kitchen a few times, and do some volunteer work, but it's kind of spontaneous. There isn't one place I've consistently volunteered at. By the time I apply to college, I'll probably have 100-150 volunteer hours.

So, what would be some good colleges that I could get into?

You can get into a lot of schools. It would help to know what you want to study, what size, location (suburban, city etc.) you like, and what you can afford. And if your SATs don’t come up look at test optional schools.

I want to major in biology, and hopefully go on to med school. Biology has been my favorite subject throughout high school, so I’m pretty set on that being my major. A city setting would be nice. I live in a rural area, and I hate it. Suburban would be okay, too. I’ve noticed that most of the schools I end up looking at are private or out of state, so they’ll probably be more expensive anyway. A school that gives nice financial aid would be nice though (: I plan on studying a lot more this time around for my SATs so they should be going up. I want try to get at least a 1900!

I’ll look at Muhlenberg, but their acceptance rate is pretty low. (In my opinion, anyway). I’ll also check out IUP. I have no desire to go to Penn State though. Everyone goes there, and I think college is a time to explore. That’s the reason I really want to go out of state, and be in a city setting. As of right now, I’m not concerned with price. I just want a broad list and I’ll narrow it down from there.

For med school in PA, it’s hard to beat Juniata and it’s a perfect match for your stats. I think their success rate is 97-100% and almost everyone is into science so it’s not like they weed out like crazy. It’s in a rural area though.
(Still thinking about out of state options)

Since you are from PA, just goto Pitt. Its probably the best college you can goto for the price. Of Course, Duke, JHU, Stanford are better but they are crazy expensive. You need to save the money for medical school. Pitt’s medical school is also highly regarded.

How about:
Illinois Wesleyan
Albion
College of Wooster
Lake Forest**
Kalamazoo
Suny Geneseo (you’d pay OOS costs but it’s a great value and not price-gouging like UVermont or OOS Penn State, so you can always try and see if they give you enough financial aid)

If you’re willing to change regions:
Rhodes* (bonus: you’re outside their typical geographical region so you’d bring in diversity)
Hendrix* (great merit aid and like Rhodes for the geographical diversity)
University of Puget Sound* (same as above for a different region)
Whitman (idem)
St Olaf** (other region, same advantage for you as an applicant but probably a reach based on your stats)
Lawrence (idem)
Earlham (idem)

Academically, you have a shot at all these schools.

: in a city or big town
*: less than 1hour from a metropolis

It looks like I was mistaken. SUNY Geneseo OOS would be cheaper than Pitt in-state. It is very strong is sciences and a feeder college for medical schools.

yup, a less colloquial way to say “same thing, same thing” Kind of like “” “” except these may be mistaken for emoticons
Sorry, I use it a lot when I don’t want to write the same words over and over, and I forgot it’s not that common even if it’s a useful word.
