Is there a list on College Confidential somewhere that lists schols that give generous merit aid for either National Commended Status OR high SAT/ACT scores. I know schools like Auburn and Clemson give generous merit aid based on combination of GPA and SAT. And I know that Fordham has been generous with merit aid, even for National Merit Commended Scholars. Does anyone else know of schools with generous merit aid scholarships based on GPA/SAT scores? Is there a list on College Confidential? If not, perhaps we should start one for the 2011-2012 cycle.

I’ve never seen such a list for students with Commended status, which of course doesn’t mean that it’s nonexistent. If you haven’t already, you could try searching on “National Merit Commended Scholarship.”

From my college perusals, it seems that most schools offer something for National Merit finalists, if anything. A small number of schools offer something for National Merit Semifinalists. But I haven’t seen any who offer scholarships for Commended students. At that point, you probably need to rely on grades and/or SAT/ACT scores.

There are one or two threads on schools known for good merit aid (search for those words). I think that they’re in the Parent’s forum.

ETA: Yes, the thread is right at the top as an “Important” thread.
