College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

Hey i am going to apply to the college of agriculture and life sciences this year. I was just wondering if this college is easier or harder than CAS or is it just the same? also y does this college have a rolling admission policy while CAS has april 1st policy? thanks a million for ur responses :)

CALS is a State Contract College (semi-public). CAS is an Endowed College (totally private). The (3) Contract Colleges have rolling admissions because they feel like it. ;)

CAS has the lowest acceptance rate, but interests, rather than acceptance rates, should dictate the college you apply to. You have a much lower chance of getting into a college that doesn't match you as well versus a college that appears to be a few percentage points more selective.

In CALS, you apply to a specific major. Therefore, some majors (such as AEM) have an extremely low acceptance rate, while other majors have a much higher acceptance rate.

CALS has rolling acceptance decisions, but your application has to be in by January. I'm not sure why they do this, but I'm glad they do - I applied RD, but found out I was accepted in February!

trasi86, could you list some of your stats? (just really curious!)

Ok...I've never listed them before, but since you asked so nicely...

SAT 1440 (710 M)
3 SAT II's - all above 700
AP Bio - 5 (took four AP classes total, but only one jr. year)
GPA: 3.7/4.0
Rank: 25/360

EC's:
raised three puppies to be trained as service dogs for the physically disabled
volunteer/web designer/fundraising coordinator for above service dog organization
bunch of random titles from high school clubs (FBLA, volunteer groups, Yearbook, Key Club)
marching band

plus some awards that I included but don't mean much, like being ranked in science team or chem olympics (I didn't rank high enough for it to be important)

I definitely don't have the superb stats other CC'ers have, but I had a strong interest in Animal Science, which showed in my application. I also took (almost) the heaviest courseload possible at my school...I just didn't work very hard once I got there.

Is it easy to change majors once you're accepted into CALS?

No, I hear it's about as complicated as changing schools.

if admission is rolling does that mean it's better to apply early or does it make no difference? also, do the contract colleges give preference to new york residents, like most public colleges give preference to their local residents? i'm interested in everything environmental but i don't know which major to apply for... i don't want to do undecided though cus i heard they don't like that. advice anyone?

....This is over 2 years old, talk about reviving a dead thread....

Do the contract colleges really have rolling admissions??

about how many people are admitted into bio for cals? i know i posted a thread about this but no one answered to it and its something that ive been obsessively thinking about for days

lol, i didn't even pay attention to the last date. at least people are replying!

they roll out regular decisions. it's not actually rolling.

mer0723, i don't think they release those numbers

hey everyone, i was wondering if anyone would be willing to read my interest essay for environmental science in cals. also considering doing alternate admission to human ecology for environmental design and analysis. anyone wanna help me out?

okay because in some thread from last year i believe it had this number like 3600 biological sciences applicants for cals and only 600 accepted? thats pretty much all the applicants cals even gets so i wasnt sure if those were legit statistics.

ive said it before and ill say it again i love proofreading! haha

Trasi86- "In CALS, you apply to a specific major. Therefore, some majors (such as AEM) have an extremely low acceptance rate, while other majors have a much higher acceptance rate."

What are those majors that accept the most? The medium? And the least (I assume its AEM).
