How competitive is admissions to this college? My daughter is going to be a freshman in high school and wants to attend UIUC and major in animal sciences. She will be participating in a high school program ran by aces for under represented minorities next year. What is her chances of admission after she participates in these program

The College of ACES is by far the least selective at UIUC. The top 25% has worse stats than the bottom 25% of Engineering and Business. Roughly, a class rank in the top 25% and an ACT in the upper 20s should be good.

You can look at it this way. If your daughter truly wants to pursue a major in the college of ACES, then she should develop a great high school record with good test scores. Afterwards, she could easily get into the college of ACES and possibly even get some scholarships because the college of ACES desperately wants to have high caliber students.

Would an ACT score of a 23-25 be ok. She does not take standardized tests well, so I am not sure how well she would do. When she does take the ACT,she will get modifications by allowing her extra time to complete it because she is learning disabled. She is also a member of 4-H. She is only going to be a freshman in high school. She has been placed in regular college prep courses for her first year.

There is a program at U of I during the summer, ACES has a career exploring program where you have to have a B average in English, Math and Science and it is for URMs and the university pays for everything except for meals. By doing this, I hope increases her chances of getting into U of I because goodness knows, they need the diversity.

Admission to UIUC is heavily depedent upon high school class rank (through junior year) and ACT (or SAT) score. Each year as part of the application process UIUC publishes the 50% ranges of entering freshman from the prior year to give applicants an idea as to where they stand. You can find that graph for the 2004 freshman class by going here (http://www.oar.uiuc.edu/prospective/ugrad/ugchances.html and then click on "graph" to get to the graph. As you will see the 25% to 75% range for freshman in ACES was 24 to 29 ACT and class rank top 72% to 90%. The 50% range changes from year to year although usually not by much.
