College of Arts and Science Open House?

I guess there are four days in April for admitted students to go visit. Does anyone know what goes down at the open house days? If anyone has been to or heard about one, are they helpful or worthwhile?

I’m a current freshman at Vandy and I went to one of the April Open House days last spring. I don’t remember the exact schedule or anything, but we had a tour, a lunch, several of the deans gave presentations and answered questions, and there was a student panel that talked about various aspects of life at Vandy. For me, it was really helpful (I was very undecided/didn’t have a great impression of the school going into it), but I think a large part of that was because the Open House was my first visit. The deans were really nice and seemed helpful and approachable and whatnot, and I think that’s one aspect of the program that was different than what you’d get from a non-open house visit. However, if you’ve visited/gone on a tour before, I wouldn’t say that it’s something that would make that big of a difference (not worth flying/driving across the country to go to), but it is a great weekend to go if you haven’t visited before. I happened to visit, unknowingly, on the weekend of Rites of Spring, the annual music festival held on campus - basically it’s a very loud, partying weekend (kind of chaotic), and you can’t see parts of the campus because they’re covered by tents/stages (at least from what I remember). This was probably the worst open house weekend I could have chosen to come (not really a big partier, so not really what I wanted to see at open house . . . protective parents also freaked a bit, which wasn’t helpful in convincing them to help me pay for it), so if that’s something that might play into your decision, I’d recommend coming a different weekend. Regardless, the visit still convinced me to come here and it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made (love it here!), and I met my current awesome roommate over lunch. Congrats on getting in and good luck on your decision!
