Hi I'm a student at JMU who is in the engineering program right now (Fresh man), but thinking of switching my major to accounting. I was wondering if you guys know how hard is it to switch major to COB in JMU, and a description of what an accountant does. I know they deal with taxes for companies and even individuals relating to income money and etc. I want to know more on what accountant does than just general knowledge. Also do you usually take the certification test for accountant when you graduate or is your diploma like a certification? How hard is the College of Business accounting, at JMU? I have interest in this major so I'm asking. I know JMU is not known for engineering and accounting was always my back up major and JMU is known for it.

JMU business school has a great reputation. My son is a senior/CS major at JMU. Went in as accounting major freshman year. In the COB you take 10 COB classes freshman/sophomore years, then apply to the major in COB. You need a minimum GPA to apply, 2.8. I think. COB was not a good fit for him. He hated the COB classes, and really struggled with them. He ended up changing his major spring of sophomore. Now he is doing well, and likes what he is doing, which is very important.
