I'm applying to the College of Engineering, but I have a few questions...

Would I still be able to take classes at the College of Arts and Sciences such as Music? Because I still want to have time to play an instrument even if I'm not at CAS.

Does it help to submit an arts supplement when applying to the CoE? I'm just curious if it'll increase my chances. I was thinking of recording music or sending a video of a performance if that would be okay and help in any way...

Also, if it does help, what is the level of the people submitting? I mean I don't want to send something that sounds mediocre compared to others who submit music during the application process.

Yes, you can take the classes and even minor in it, you just can’t double major across schools. I don’t really know if the supplement helps though… it might set you apart from the other applicants.

I don’t see any reason to submit an arts supplement when applying to the engineering school. If you won music awards, however, you can include that in your application.

Alright, thanks… the no-double-major thing is good to know.

I was under the impression that submitting it might help to demonstrate skill, but I guess I was wrong.

I just had one more quick question… when do students usually choose their majors? I’m pretty set on majoring in computer science, but if I decide I want to do computer or mechanical engineering after the first or second semester is it easy to change?

I’m a ChemE in the class of 2016. I submitted a recording of instrumental music when I applied RD, and the director of orchestras sent me an email telling me that he wrote a letter of recommendation to the admissions office. If you are good you should definitely send in a submission.

If you play at a high level and especially if you list it as your major EC then I think it would help for you to submit a supplement. My kid submitted art supplement for dance, even though she wasn’t going to major in dance. It was her major EC and she was dancing at a semi-professional level.
