College or McDonough?

Should I apply to McDonough or the College for Georgetown? I just visited, and Georgetown is really really high on my list. I think its a high match for me, since I have a pretty low UW gpa (3.78) but a good SAT score and a lot of teaching/volunteering/working with underprivileged kids, in addition to coming from a Jesuit school.

I am very interested in studying economics, and doing work in education, but I'm not sure which school would be better for that. I know both would be great for doing service, but I eventually want to end up in nonprofit work or do something about our education system, or something of the like. Both the college and McDonough have their benefits for that, so here's my main two questions.

Is McDonough any easier to get into than the college? (Note: I've served a business internship at a startup and will teach underpriviliged kids this summer, both pretty notable, and I figure the business internship will relate better to McDonough.

Would it be better to study say, political economy at the College, or finance at McDonough? By this I mean I'm interested in interdisciplinary study, and I'd like to get the best of both worlds - would going to either the College or McDonough limit me in that, or would I be able to study both with ease?

Thanks!

I am putting my application together right now, and I chose MSB. I had to look on Georgetown’s website to see if the acceptance rate between the two schools was significant, but it is such a small difference I wouldn’t apply to either school just for a better chance of getting in.

MSB only has 6 majors (accounting, finance, international business, management, marketing, and operations and information management I THINK), obviously all business related, and you can’t double major across schools from what I’ve found. So if you are looking to do education, I would apply to the college, not MSB

Our S in in the College and is majoring in Political Economy. As a sophomore this past year he applied to MSB for acceptance into the Business Minor program and was accepted (they only take 50 per year). He will now have his major in political economy (economics) along with a basic business background and will be set to go either towards an MBA or JD upon graduation.

Looking at what you wrote, penprospect, I think you should go for College!

Thanks guys! I think that I will be applying for the college, it seems like Political Economy really suits me, and hopefully I can do what AvonHSDad’s son did and get a business minor at MSB, should I get accepted and attend.

Can you double major with one major in one school and the other in a separate school? As in, can I major in history through Georgetown College and International political economy through the school of foreign service?

No, you can’t. You might be able to minor (I think) in some cases, but not when the SFS is involved.
