Should we worry if we didn’t get email about which program yet?

My S’s notification got caught in spam folder. He’s in Science and Global Change.

Here’s a nice little piece on the Scholars Program from today’s Diamondback.

Scholars was an awesome thing for my D, who is a current junior architecture major. She was concerned about a lack of social life living with all the “smarter” kids (who didn’t get into honors), and because of that actually considered declining the Scholars invite. Luckily she did accept and lived 2 years in Bel Air in the Arts Scholars dorm. Found her best friends at UMD there and loved the program. However, she socialized a lot freshman year with fraternities … tailgating before football games, etc. and found many friends outside of Scholars.
I felt the Scholars program kept my very smart daughter from the huge distractions of partying, and living with other academically inclined kids really kept her on the straight and narrow. She was a 4.0 student freshman year, and I don’t think this would have happened had she lived in the general student population.
By the way, she would probably hate that I related this experience in a chat room…
As an aside, I wouldn’t be too concerned if you don’t get your first choice “theme” in Scholars – great program overall and really sets you apart, looks great on your resume. Plus the Cambridge Community is a small college experience, in some ways, within a huge school.

Uhm, I have a question about transferring scholars programs. I was placed in Science and Global Change, but after going to check it out, I didn’t like it very much. I found the transfer program form, but I was wondering if I fill this out, does this mean I’m releasing my position in Science and Global Change? Because if possible, I want to stay in thr Scholars program no matter what, but I also want to change which program I’m in. Another question I have is that apparently if I fill this form out, I should go to the regular freshman orientation instead of the scholars one? But I’m technically already in one, does that make any sense? Sorry if that was confusing and wordy. If you could help me, I would be really thankful!

@UxMisaki in ref to your first question you’re still in the Scholars program, but unless you put Science and Global Change on your transfer form as at least one of the choices and put down that you care about which program they put you in, then you’ll most likely still have your spot SGC if you don’t get placed in any of your other preferred programs.

Why not go to orientation first, then make the request to transfer to a different Scholars program? Since the orientation is likely to be after May 1, they will have a better sense of where there are openings and you can talk to someone directly at that point rather than doing the request from a distance.

I just found out that my transfer went through! I went from SDU to Arts. It took about a month, give or take a week, for it to go through.
