Having gone through the college planning process now several times I cant help but wonder... would HS's benefit
from having one person whose job it is specifically to ferret out good scholarships for both summer camps at the HS level and college scholarship opportunities. Have the Guidance Office dial it up a notch if you will...
I found some great opporunities for my kids that really helped them, their Counselors had no clue. Now... I know
they are busy, so many kids, guidelines, etc.... but thats why I think one position dedicated to just finding
scholarships for summer camps and then schools could be a HUGE help to the families in that District.
I think it would set apart a School District looking to attract famlies ( arent they all?). Colleges brag about their
Career Placement ~ maybe HS's need to get professional with their summer programs and college placement?!
Help these students start building their resume Freshman Year/HS.
I would do it for the right amount of money :)

I don’t know - our GCs do some of this already. Or particular teachers. My older son got notified about a Saturday program at Columbia U. and a lecture series at IBM - though I think his physics teacher initiated it not the GC.

on the flip side, would your kids have gotten the opportunities you found for them if every student in their school knew about them and also applied? My twin Ds freshman class is 650 students in a upper middle class school district. The less competition for these opportunities and scholarships is better for my Ds. Also, imagine the poor GCs having to deal with freshman parents whose student didn’t get into the right summer program and now will never get into an ivy league. Lucky for me, my Ds don’t want to go to an Ivy League. One less headache.
