Has anyone used this service with Scott Weingold? It's a service that helps with financial aid, planning and etc for college. They have testimonials from people that say they really helped them with getting their student into colleges and universities with a high "need". Please tell me the good and bad about this company. I'm a skeptic at heart but I want to hear what you have to say about it. Thanks.

I have no experience with this individual, but my experience with very a “qualified professional” with many letters after their name is that he did not fulfill his promises. After we did NOT buy a large annuity from him as part of the college planning process, we were put in the back of his pile. We did pay quite a bit for his services and I can honestly say I did everything myself. I did a great job and if I had known about CC sooner, I may have even done better He even lost our tax return and could not do our FAFSA OR CSS for us. All I can say is do more research. The person we used promised SAT PREP, ESSAY coach, and college selection research and assistance with FA and MA, among other services. He has an expensive office and slick sales pitch, but he used an SAT prep computer program he subscribes to for his clients and the essay coach was an online editor who never met with us. We could afford to lose the money we paid, but others cannot, so beware. That being said, I am sure there are reputable professionals. Many really want to sell you something and the college assistance is a way to get you in their office and to discuss your assets.

Search this site and you will find you answer, which, basically, is yes, but it was a waste of money.

We get emails from him all the time. I finally did some research on him and concluded that it would be a waste of money.

Thank you everyone. My husband and I had a phone consultation tonight and looked on BBB afterward. We both decided that we will “take our chances” and do the college process on our own. $4,495 will stay in our pockets instead of theirs. It is tempting but I don’t feel that they will make that much of a difference in our child’s college future. Thanks again for all your help.

The book “Paying for College Without Going Broke” can help, too.

I also agree to buy the book “Paying for College without Going Broke” It walks you through many different scenarios and was very helpful. Most of the services “College Planning Network” charges for can be done for free quite easily.
