I'd like to know about other programs at universities similar to the Writing for Screen & Television Program at University of Southern California. That's an extremely tough school to get into and even though I've been taking honors and AP classes since freshman year, my GPA isn't so great (cumulative GPA u/w 2.97 and w 3.22). I really want to be a screenwriter and I'm trying to find some other schools that have similar programs. Thanks so much

Can you write well?

If you want to be a screenwriter, you don’t need to go to college. Rather than worry about college admission essays, debt, tuition, AP, Honors, and GPA, worry about improving your craft and learning the ins and outs of the business (read “writing for emotional impact”, “dialogue secrets”, “breakfast with the sharks”, “from reel to deal”, and “dealmaking in the film and television industry”: that’s a USC worthy education right there, for 70 bucks, minus the dozens of hours wasted in meaningless film theory classes and writing useless papers)

Do this now, and you’ll be leagues ahead of any suckers in film school. I’m perfectly serious. If you’re actually committed to becoming a screenwriter (and aren’t just seduced by the “persona” of a famous filmmaker/writer), this is the route you should be considering before USC (which, in my opinion, only serves to disillusion people with fancy advertisements and corny promises while siphoning a students money away)

This is a nearly-impossible career. It’s time to get realistic now. Only the most thick skinned, tactical, business minded writers make it. They understand that things don’t just fall into place, with or without a University degree, and you have to work hard to succeed: and no, the late nights you pull writing college essays will be rendered insignificant. When I say work hard, I mean work hard and gain experience IN THE REAL WORLD, and in the real industry of your choice (not some fake simulation environment that costs 100-200k)
