College recruiters new approach?

My D2 just got a letter from a close-by “Law Department”. Of course, she opened it, to find it was a recruitment letter urging her to apply to “X college” for early merit consideration.
Does this seem off-color to you?

What is a “law dept”?

It apparently was some corporation’s law department…Of course, I initially thought it was a parking ticket or some such, otherwise it would have gone in the shredder

If there’s a phone number on it, give them a call. Ask what they are doing. Ask if the work for the school and whether they think your child has a chance.

Sometimes prominent alums agree to send letters to prospective college applicants. My kids got some of these. It’s not a new thing…and it’s just a way for colleges to reach out using grads. My guess is someone in that “law department” is an alum.

from the envelope, thought it was a speeding or parking ticket…

My son got one from an alum when he was applying to schools.
