Hi all. I've been reading the stuff on the forum for a while, but I just registered today, and hope for some help from you guys. I'm homeschooled, and in 11th grade. I'm taking the SAT on June 7, and I'll probably take three more SAT II's on October 7 of this year. Because I do not have a formal high school transcript to show colleges, I'm really focusing on the SAT to get an excellent score. I've decided that I want to be a doctor, after reading a couple books on what being a doctor is like and how difficult med school can be. Because I'm schooled at home, I don't have a guidance counselor, and unfortunately my parents have shown no interest in helping me with my college search, so I have to rely on other people and sources. A friend of mine who attends Princeton told me that a BA/MD program would be great for me since it may cut off a year of my schooling. My doctor told me the same thing too, but without a transcript from HS, I don't know if I could show enough to be accepted to a BA/MD program. Nevertheless, I am definitely going to pursue premed and med school, so if a BA/MD program doesn't work, I'll just take the traditional route, however challenging it may be. But until then I really want to do some serious research on the different BA/MD programs out there, and the colleges that offer them, and sort them out. My questions for you are: 1) Are premed programs all basically the same, or are they different? 2) If they're distinct, what should I look for when choosing one? 3) If I see that a BA/MD program is not within my reach, and I decide to attend the traditional 4 years premed then send my MCAT scores to med schools, does it matter which college I go to? In other words, is a premed program at one college better than a premed program at another college? Thanks for the help!
