College Search for Rising Junior (Safeties?)

@ucbalumnus Yes, I was considering philosophy! Anything to prepare me for the LSAT would be amazing!

ACT 31
<<
3.7 GPA (4.1 W) only taken Honors and AP Courses throughout HS. I am in the top 11% of my class, I don’t know if i will be in top 10 or not, but I am taking a rigorous courseload (5 APs) so it should help my GPA a bit. I am also taking Psych 101 and hopefully sociology 101 during the school year, one per semester.
Good commitment to EC’s (only 1 leadership position at the moment)

I am hoping to major in neuroscience or a neuroscience related field such as behavior, cognitive science etc. (future target is med school so cost is a big thing for me)
my list right now is
UCLA (top top top school for me, but I know my rank sucks)
UC Davis
UCSD
UC Santa Cruz (safety?)
Case Western Reserve Uni
Fordham Uni
Tulane Uni
NYU (really expensive, not sure if I want to apply)
UNC Chapel Hill
University of Alabama (in Tuscaloosa)- i qualify for a 2/3 scholarship and honors college at that school, if i get a 32+ on ACT I will be getting a full ride.

I would take off UNC…very hard to get in OOS. Have parents run the NPC there, likely too expensive as well.

Have parents run the NPCs for Case, Tulane and Fordham as well (Case is in an ugly area, heads up).

Santa Cruz and Alabama are your safeties, but why not also include UCR and UCM?

If you’re really serious about med school (really serious!), and you’re from pre-med-heavy-Calif, then going OOS to a state where you can get a “tie” to that state to help with med school admissions there would be helpful.

“Yes. I was just accepted this past school year into Michigan’s class of 2019.”

Congrats. I stand corrected.

^ actually, Case is in a really cool neighborhood called Univeraity Circle.look it up on youtube or use your browser. And it gives preference to it a premeds for med chool admission, which, being private, means you don’t have to worry about instate requirements and escape the CA med school madness.
In terms of really, really cool neighborhoods, and good for premed, its hard to beat Macalester. One of the best urban neighborhoods for students (look it up, its called Grand Avenue and Summit.) Imho, among few in the country ;).

@mom2collegekids Thanks! I don’t like the locations of UCR or UCM, and I could probably get a spot at either because of ELC eligibility. I haven’t visited case and I probably won’t (if I get in and go) till I get there due to its odd location in the U.S., but thanks for the input! What kind of state would it help to get ties with OOS for med school?

@MYOS1634 Thanks! I’ll look into University Circle and Macalester! Are you a current student at case?

Nope, not a student
