Hey there. As everyone on this website is no doubt aware, the time has come for most people who were not early action/decision or otherwise off the majority time schedule to select their college of choice. I could really use some help choosing which college to attend in the fall, so I would appreciate it greatly if anyone who reads this post could do the following:
Please post a new comment on this thread rating each of the following schools (from one to ten) in prestige/name recognition, and then in (if you have any experience) liveability, comfort, social scene, etc (all combined into one). For example, my rating for CT Wesleyan: 7, 7. Also, if it is not in your profile and you feel comfortable doing so, please post which state / country you are from so I can get a feel for the geographic, well, demographics. If you haven't heard of a university, just leave it blank or put a question mark. Feel free to only partially respond. Thanks!

Any additional comments are more than welcome!

Seems like a cold way to go about your decision making. How many of the schools have you visited? What are your academic interests and other priorities? Use more gut and less spreadsheet.

go to yale or princeton

I attend Wisconsin-Madison.

prestige- I can't put this in a number. People usually group it around Michigan (as a top public) and US News has it around NYU, William& Mary, and Case Western.

name rec- 10. everyone has heard of the badgers. and then in (if you have any experience) liveability, comfort, social scene, etc (all combined into one).

liveability, comfort, social scene- 8-9. Yes, it's cold in the winter. Very nice in the fall/spring. The social scene is amazing if you like the party and if you're not into that, there are 40K people here, you can find more low key people. Madison is one of the best college towns in the nation.

Thanks; I really appreciate the input. Additionally, in deference to the admitted "coldness" of the nature of this thread, I would like to add that any personal experiences on or about any of the above campus(es) and their staff / student body are more than welcome. In particular, I would be interested to hear about the school's (especially UVa, Rice, CMU, Cornell and Berkeley) stronger programs. I apologize if this methodology appears "cold", but I would ask readers and posters to consider that I am using this forum not to evaluate the school's personal value to me (something that I have done through visiting and reading up on the schools' stronger programs), but rather as a tool for ascertaining their value in the eyes of others.

The ones that I didn't mention either have no specific strength or I'm unfamiliar with them.

Have you been accepted to all these? Or are these for next year's admissions round?

If you've been accepted then pick from the best ones: Yale, Duke, Princeton, Penn
