<p>i don't know, i think it's really hard to judge a school by just visiting it for a little tour, or reading a little blurb on the internet. so many people (even on here) say things about my school like - i don't like the area around the school, but the campus is really pretty! well i lived in the area around the school for four years, never got mugged, shot, raped, etc... nor did any of my friends.. i'd stop and talk to the locals, some of them even would come on campus and play pool with us. i had just as many friends that went to other colleges in our town than i had at my own college. i would go to countless shows at theatre's in my town, plan countless trips down to the inner harbor or new york city.. it was a great experience, but people won't go there because they take one look at the city and determine it to be shady.. yet if you actually talked to the students....</p>

<p>IMHO, the differences you refer to stem from how different folks react to the same things differently, just as a rural campus will seem wonderfully peaceful to one, it may seem terribly isolated to another. </p>
<p>I'm not sure why so many folks think stereotypes are negative. To call a place a "jock" campus may be positive to as many as a negative, for example.</p>
