going to college this fall, just looking for some tips as to dumb mistakes to avoid!

Can be anything (social, academic, other...)

-I would have paid more attention to my studies (my gpa went from a 4.0 first semester to a 3.7 second semester- HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT).
-I would have gotten more involved and tried to meet more people instead of just going to the beach and holing up in the library all the time.

I just posted a thread like this an hour or two ago haha. Great minds think alike! Although yours was phrased better! Excited to read both threads now :)

^Hey, that’s cool, I’ll go find your thread too!

Bump…

People can continue replying…please!

Less derping around, more serious studying. I didn’t party, but I spent too much time watching shows online. Tried my high school study methods, that spelled disaster for my grades. -_- But diifferent dtrokes for different folks…some people find a balance from day 1 so just go with what you feel. If anything, you’ll know what you messed up on during winter break and will fix it during spring semester. At least that’s my personal anecdote.

get out and do more stuff. Don’t just hang in the dorms and party. Youll find out quixkly there is much more to college then getting wasted.

Now this may be hard if you and your friends dont have a car, but go out and experience as much as you can. Join clubs, experience new things.

I did much more of that sophomore year and as you mature you realize that 4 years of awesomeness goes by fast. Would you want to be drunk the whole time? I sure don’t want to be.

Like I just got into homebrewing, and joined the brewing club this year. Met some of the best people and developed a new passion. We would go on hikes, and go camping. Just go out and do stuff.

Or get wasted every night haha, youll figure out for yourself what you want to do and not do.

I rushed spring semester instead of Fall, and I definitely wish I would’ve rushed in the Fall.

Also, I wish I would’ve studied quite a bit more. Looking back, I could’ve pulled off a 4.0, but I was too busy partying and ended up with a 3.75 (still good, but I know I could’ve done better.)

I wish I had a) been more assertive with my roommate and b) switched rooms while I had the chance. My roommate was literally the biggest NIGHTMARE imaginable and it led to so much unnecessary stress and annoyance on an otherwise really great year. I was always a non-confrontational kind of person, and I put up with her **** for the whole year… now I know better.

I regret not starting to go to parties early in my fall semester rather than later on. I perhaps lost a little enjoyment that I may have gotten early in the year and later on, too.

bump…anyone else?

went out more, joined more clubs and volunteered…you’ll always look back at your freshman year, and laugh at how young and naive you were…so you might as give your self something to laugh at once you grow older.

thanks for the link.^

Less wasting time on the internet, more actually doing stuff, anything. -_-

changing buildings from a suite-style dorm to a standard residence hall. social life is so different between the two.

Frankly, wish I had studied more. Got caught up with partying and being involved with student groups that I neglected studying. I know I should have a higher GPA than what I have now.

Kinda wish I had opted for a single than a double. My parents offered the choice, but I went with a double to have a “true freshman experience” with a roommate and all. Regret it, since I did not get along with my roommate in the slightest and was stressed all year because of it. But I’m kinda glad I went through with it as well, since now I know better.
