College Suggestions for a future Bio/*INSERT LAW MAJOR HERE* major

Here are my stats posted straight from my chance thread

Race:Asian
Sex: Male
High school: Highly competitive math and science magnet school, used to be #4 in nation (From a class of 20-30 people, usually 2-3 go to Ivies or MIT/Caltech, another 2 or 3 go to top 10 colleges, another 2-3 go to highly ranked schools like georgia tech or vandy, the rest go to state schools)
Current Location: ALABAMA (LOL ONLY ADVANTAGE IMO)
Possible majors: Biology and/or Economics

GPA: 3.74-3.75 (unweighted) - SLACKED OFF freshman and sophomore years (definite upward curve in GPA, with straight As in Junior Year) - should be 3.80 by end of 1st senior semester
4.3 weighted - high weighted GPA (compared to classmates) due to number of AP classes (will have taken all but one (computer science) out of 14 available AP classes at my school)
Class rank: We don't "officially" rank, but due to the competitiveness of my school, i'm around the top 25% in terms of UW GPA, I think number 2 in terms of weighted GPA.

ACT: 35 (will retake in September)
- English: 35
- Math: 36
- Reading: 34
- Science: 35
Writing: ?

SATs:
Feb: 2220 (reading 680 math 800 writing 740)
June: 2350 (reading 800 math 770 writing 780)
Superscore: 2380

SAT IIs: Biology M- 800; US History - 800; Chemistry: 780

APs:
Environmental Science - 5
Biology - 5
Stats - 5
Calc BC - 5
European History - 5
US History -5
World History -5 (self-study)
Art History - 5 (YES, I DO LIKE HISTORY!!!)
Chemistry - 4

I'm a National AP scholar, and will qualify for Siemens AP scholarship (probably will win cause I'm in Alabama)

PSAT: 216, didn't really study (most likely national merit, since I'm in AL)

Extracurricular Activities - nothing major

Math Team
- 4 Years; Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior
- various trophies
- aime qualifier in 9th grade (always missed by 1 question during 10th and 11th grade)
Varsity Quiz Bowl
- responsible for reboot after old coach retired
- 3 years, soph - JV, while others are all varsity. Co-captained junior year, and will be sole captain next year
- Qualified for state plus 2 or 3 other trophies.
- 1 individual trophy
Varsity Chess Team
- Part of the original team
- Captain, coach, organizer, motivational speaker, and player in 11th and 12th grade
- not many tournaments, mainly in-school chess club. Did win 1st place at 2 tournaments

Mu Alpha Theta
- 10th grade inductee
- secretary - during junior year
- nothing next year (lost election for pres)

Summer:
Debate camp (1st place x 2 during in-camp tournament) for the past two years.
Did research for my dad (who owns a microbiology lab)
Volunteered at local zoo (100 hours or so).
Went back to china sophomore summer, so didn't do much that summer.
Will be applying for Intel/Siemens with current research (flu vaccine)
This year, taking 2 classes at local 4 year college (Cal 3 and Genetics), will take 1 class each semester during school year.

Next year's courses: Since I already exhausted all my AP classes, I can only take 4 APs next year.

Recommendations:
I'll get one from my Latin teacher who absolutely loves me. My Bio teacher is more neutral towards me, but I really like him.

What I'm Looking For:
1) BIG SCHOOL (at least 1000+/class) - I come from a small high school and I hate it
2) Any type of campus
3) GREAT Biology/Biomedical Engineering and/or INSERT LAWYER MAJOR HERE(pol sci, econ, communications) majors
4) Future career = Researcher (PhD or MD/PhD in either microbiology, virology, or some other microbiological field of study) and/or Lawyer specializing in biotech/biology/medical malpractice. So good graduate school entrance rates
5) Great Party Scene - i.e getting drunk every weekend
6) Minimal number of Asian people - That's right...i don't wanna be around that many asians

My current list (made by my prestige wh0re parents) is basically the top 15 schools in USNWR school rankings + my state school (university of Alabama). As you probably realize, this doesn't work out very well. So I'm soliciting advice for good schools that fit my criteria.

With a 35 why would you retake you ACT?

Cause you can choose what score to send, thus there’s no harm if i make a lower score

You sir, are a schoolbot. Seriously, I couldn’t imagine being that perfect in everything (except your GPA isn’t stellar)… what are you on!!!

ASIANNESS lol

How come you are so sure you want to double major, yet you have no idea what that major will be (except for one that gets you into a law school, of course)?

From what I hear (about any professional school, really), law schools don’t care about your major as much as they do about your ability to think and argue clearly and creatively. A good run in the bio department with some extracurriculars that emphasize the qualities that will make you a good lawyer is better than stressing out over a double major that you don’t even know you’ll like.

I don’t know why some people feel like they need to double major. It’s great if you want two degrees from your college, and if you can do it in four years that’s even better. But if you have to think hard about what the second major should be, that’s a sign that it might not be worth it.

Do you have any state/region preferences?

To Chris07: Good point about double major. More likely than not, I’ll probably minor in the LAW area and major in biology. I think the majors I mentioned (econ, poli sci, communications) are just good things to know throughout life and I have a real interest in them

To Japanmedlover: Nope, as long as it’s not Hawaii or Alaska, I’m fine with it

Ok, there is a definitely a difference between being unable to choose a major because of a lack of interest and an excess of interest. I thought you meant that you just wanted another major in an area that law schools liked, I didn’t realize you were using it as a description of the things you liked (which, like I tried to show, actually are a little cliche for law schools; but bio would counter that).

So just curious. Where did you land?

*What I’m Looking For:

  1. **BIG SCHOOL/B - I come from a small high school and I hate it
  2. Any type of campus
  3. GREAT Biology/Biomedical Engineering and/or INSERT LAWYER MAJOR HERE(pol sci, econ, communications) majors

    5) Great Party Scene - i.e getting drunk every weekend
**6) Minimal number of Asian people - That’s right…i don’t wanna be around that many asians **

Curious…why the mix of bio/bio-med and pre-law? Are you considering becoming a physician and an atty? That’s possible. Or, are you just keeping your options open?

Do you realize that there isn’t a “law” major? You can major in anything, take the LSAT and apply to law schools.

How much can your parents spend on your education for your other schools? Do you know what their EFC is? [FinAid | Calculators | Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and Financial Aid](http://www.finaid.org/calculators/finaidestimate.phtml)
I know that Bama will be almost free for you as a NMF (which you will make as long as you do the paperwork correctly).

I understand the desire for a big college with the fun/party aspect. But do you really plan on getting drunk every weekend? Do you understand how easy it is for someone under 25 to develop a drinking problem? Your brain is still growing til age 25. Drinking too much and too often at this age will affect your brain. It’s one thing to party a bit in college; it’s quite another to binge drink/get drunk every weekend.

Fun party schools tend to be “big sports” schools. Is that ok with you?

Frankly, I don’t know where to recommend that won’t have a lot of Asians. The top schools in this country tend to be rather heavy in Asians. Do you feel that you don’t relate well to Asians? Is that the issue? Are you more comfortable socializing and dating non-Asians?

I’m thinking Vandy, but not sure how heavy Asians it is. Do you mind Catholic schools - like ND or Georgetown?
