College suggestions for a student on track to med school?

Hi! I'm trying to get together a list of colleges as I'm planning a visiting trip this month, but I'm really having trouble figuring out which schools are bests for certain subjects and I thought that all of you here might be helpful. I want to go to med school, and will most likely major in chem or biochem, and possibly double that with or minor in psychology or another social science, so even though I really want the school to be very strong in the sciences, I'd also like it to be well-rounded. I'm fine with LACs as long as they aren't ridiculously small (I'm setting my minimum around 2500). I'd like to be at least near a major city, but I'm not picky provided the school isn't hours from civilization. I don't want to stray too far from home, so probably will stick to the midwest/east coast. I'm planning on applying to 8-10 schools. Some general info:

Location: Florida
School: Nationally ranked.
Class rank: N/A
Ethnicity: Hispanic, Arab
PSAT: 216
SATI: 720 M 790 CR 800 W
SATII: 800 Chem 780 MathII
ACT: 35
GPA: 3.89 UW 4.57 W
APs: 8 total, scored 4 or above on all so far.
Courseload next year: 4 APs, 2 honors courses
ECs: Piano for 11 years, ~125 service hours at the local hospital (aiming for 200 total), internship at the local hospital, NJHS/NHS, Mu Alpha Theta, Spanish Honors Society
Honors: National Hispanic Scholar, possibly National Merit Scholar (expecting at least semi-finalist status)

If there's any info that you need that I'm forgetting let me know! I'm just really desperate for some suggestions (my counselor's a bit useless), and if anyone wants to suggest safeties/reaches/matches specifically, I'd be extremely grateful, I'm starting to get really nervous about this process. :)

break - After reading your other posts, I’m going to make an outside-the-box suggestion: Look at some schools that will provide you a well-rounded educational experience … plus a well-rounded social experience. Your academic credentials are excellent, you know that. There’s every reason to believe you’ll do well with your UG GPA and the MEDCATs. So take this opportunity to cultivate some life experiences outside academics. Schools that may help facilitate this would include Vanderbilt, Emory, Tulane, UMiami, UMichigan, UColorado, etc. Good luck with your search.

Thanks for your response, and I’ll definitely look into all of those. I’m just really freaking out. Probably irrationally so. And I know I’ve posted before, but I guess I should stress that right now I’m specifically asking about schools that are strong in pre-med subjects, because I have had helpful contributions before but I just personally don’t know enough about colleges to know what’s best in that area.

You may want to hold off your decision to attend Med school until you see Obama’s Universal Health Care plan.

That Suggestion is Both Wise and Hilarious.

Anyway, when looking for a “Great Pre-Med School.” Research colleges with:

Strong Science Programs [Biology, Chemistry etc.]

An Existing Medical School Advisory Committee

Wide List Of Other Majors [Just In Case You Change Your Mind About Medicine]

Comfortable Size [For YOU] Would you mind being taught in a huge introductory Biology class of super competitive pre-med students[ex. Cornell University]? Would you like a smaller more personal undergrad experience[ex. Amherst College]?

Most important of all however is just your commitment to attaining your dream. If this is really what you want to do, then all you really need is your brain, a notebook, and a pencil.

With your stats, Rice and Duke. Look into the Rice/Baylor Medical Scholars program.

Duke, Davidson, Emory, Wake Forest, William & Mary, Rice. The usual top southern schools.

U Florida is obviously a school you should consider. Odd that people would direct you to some expensive alternatives without any consideration of the great opportunities you could get at UF/Shands for far, far less expense.

Johns Hopkins

Access to medical school (#2), public health (#1), nursing (#3), hospital (#1), top 3 premed advising committee, unrivaled medical related research opportunities (#1 largest recipient of NIH/NSF/DoD/NSA/NASA grants)…Hottest premed school 2008…

Hopkins is a mecca for medicine  ok. end brag.
