<p>She has a 31. (It’s not clear to me whether most schools superscore the ACT.) And I said 33+. I was trying to be nice, because I would say that she really needs a 34+ to get into many of the schools on her list as an unhooked student with her profile. (Not all, of course.)</p>

<p>The bottom quarter at the schools in question–HYPSCB–is populated almost entirely by hooked students: recruited athletes, URMs, legacies, et al. An unhooked student needs to be in the top 25%, and even then has less than a 10% chance of admittance at any of the above.</p>
