college suggestions

Hello, i am currently a Junior in high school.

Here is my profile:

I transferred to a different school this year. I currently go to a private school that does not offer any ap or honor classes. It’s a Jewish high school, and its one of the best private schools in my state. I am also currently taking 7 Jewish classes, and i have a 4.00. The grading system at my school is different from my old school. A 4.00 is 100, and 3.9 is 99-98 percent. At my old school anything above a 90 was considered a 4.00. It is harder to get good grades at my school. My school does not offer AP or IB classes.

Grades:

Freshman gpa- 3.7
Tenth Grade gpa- 3.86
I am pretty sure that this year my first semester gpa will be- 3.9

I moved from Israel 3 years ago. I am an Israeli, and I am Jewish.
I speak 3 languages Russian, Hebrew and English, and I am currently studying Spanish.

I am taking the SATS this year and i hoping to get a 2200 or above.
I am taking the SAT II subject tests in Hebrew and World History and I am hoping to do very well on both of them, since I am fluent in Hebrew and history is my favorite subject.

You need to narrow it down-- region of country, size of school, public/private, feel & atmosphere, social qualities, academic interests, financial concerns? Are there any schools you find appealing so far?

Perhaps you would like Brandeis or U of Pennsylvania which have a large percentage of Jewish students. Almost every school has Jewish students, however, and active Hillel organizations.

Well i only want to go to a school in the East coast, and i'd like the school have a large Jewish community. I would like to go to an Ivy League school, but i will be satisfied if i just get into a good school that has a minimum gpa requirement of a 3.6-3.7.

I am interested in going to school on the East Coast. I'd like the school to have a large active Jewish community. I don't necessarily want to go to an ivy league school but i'd like to go to a school that has a minimum gpa requirement of 3.6-3.7.

Based on your information and preferences, there is only one choice for you:

Brandeis.

I am a freshman, who attended mostly because of the large Jewish community, and I absolutely love it

(also: go to http://www.hillel.org/hillel/Hillel_Schools_New.nsf/44257994e40bf4e7852567ec00500a7d/4ba1b069bc921ebb85256de40073ff57?OpenDocument and click on schools that you are interested in, and you will see descriptions of Jewish life, including the number of Jewish students)

What major are you interested in? That would help. However, among the Ivies, I believe U Penn has a large Jewish community.

Duke has quite a large Jewish community (it even offers a Jewish Studies program, or something like that). The Freeman Center is always very busy on Fridays, and even some non-Jews come visit the center on Fridays. Four of the (24) people in my FOCUS group are Jewish, and they love the community here.

I am interested in majoring in middle eastern studies and i'd like to minor in arabic.

Penn would be great, then. Their Middle Eastern Studies program is exceptionally strong. Columbia's is too, but I'm not sure about the Jewish community.

I actually visited NYU and Columbia and i am don't know whether i should apply ed to columbia upenn or Brandeis. Those are all great school and all offer great middle eastern studies program.

What are you majoring in? and what do you like about brandeis? and did you apply ed?

Smith would be a very good choice. It has a very, very active Hillel, with a huge population at its Friday night Shabbat, a kosher/hallal kitchen serving every day, a Jewish studies department with faculty who also work at th National Yiddish Book Center, and extraordinary language programs, and great music programs (my d. is a music major - composer, violinist, and vocalist), and cooks for the Friday night meal.)

There is 5-College Certificate Program in Middle Eastern Studies, which includes Arabic, and, which, taken together, is likely larger than what you will find at most of the Ivies:
