College suggestions

I've been looking for colleges for a good year now. I've pinned down a few that I'd love to get into, but when it comes to broadening my choices, I'm having a hard time. My ideal, reach schools are Dartmouth and Cornell. I'm interested in UCLA, and will apply to UCSD as a back-up. I recently found the University of Vermont, Bennington College, Hampshire Colleges, and Marlboro College appealing, but further research shows that for me, they may be less than ideal. These are my general stats- any suggestions on colleges/universities would be greatly appreciated.

GPA: 4.3 weighted/4.0 unweighted

Class Rank: 7/583

SAT: first try- CR 710/M 740/W 700
second- CR 740/M 680/W 780
*question about my SAT scores- If I can only send one set, which would be better to send?

SAT II: World History: 680
US History: 690
Math II: 690
*These are my weak points- I'm retaking Math and will also be taking English, possibly Chemistry.

I've taken 4 AP classes so far, 5s on all the tests, 6 more APs senior year.
I'm involved in French Club, French NHS, Key Club, CSF, NHS (VP next year), 3 years of tennis. I've volunteered for an equestrian therapy program regularly for the past 4/5 years.
I was a member of Youth & Government sophomore and junior year, received Lobbyist of the Year junior year.

I'm looking for a school that has and Ecology/Environmental Science/Natural Resources and Conservation major, but with a broad area of other subjects.
As for location, I can't stand huge cities, so suburbs/rural would be ideal.
I'm sure I've left out a bunch, but that's all I can think of for now.
Thanks to anyone who actually read through all that, and thanks for your suggestions in advance.

Oberlin, Reed

just saying, I’m not sure you can consider UCSD a safety. Probably a match.

if you like really like dartmouth/cornell, i suggest to look into duke. they are similar, esp dartmouth and duke. and duke matches your criteria perfectly :)

[Nicholas School Undergraduate Programs](Undergraduate Programs | Nicholas School of the Environment) there are many, many options available to students and the nicholas school offers the breadth you desire through trinity CAS.

also, if you’re a CA resident, UCSD is probably a safety. I’d apply to UCD just to have a little more secure safety net. if not, UCSD is definitely not a safety. and LA would be a reach.

lastly, re your SAT, i’d probably send the second set. it shows specific strength in writing/CR.

I think Cornell and Dartmouth superscore, so send both sets of SATs. They will take the highest math and the highest CR, I believe. You may not be able to send just one set anyway. I think Collegeboard sends all your scores.

Cornell is perfect for you.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I am a CA resident. Judging by the people I know who have gotten into the UC schools, UCLA appears so be a match, although labeling UCSD a safety school might not be quite accurate.

You have great stats, but I also hesitate to pin UCSD as a safety.

since you’re a ca resident, sd can be a semi-safety. your GPA and stuff should give you enough pts for sd.

UCLA sounds good, although I also would not put UCSD as a backup, even if youre stats are outstanding and you live in CA. You never know with the UCs…Maybe Davis as a backup? I dont know.

Have you thought about Northwestern?

I’m going to take your advice and apply to UCD as a safety.

One more question, I’m assuming it would be correct to consider University of Vermont as a safety as well?

Yes, that would be a safety. They accepted over 60% last year and you’re above their 75% level for scores and grades.
