College Suggestions?

Hi! I'm a rising senior from Long Island, New York and I'd appreciate it if you guys could name any colleges (safety, match, or reach) that would fit me.
I'm planning to major in Biology but I am not 100% sure. I am considering English as well although I'm leaning towards Biology.
Thanks! :)

High School Type: Not very competitive
Ethnicity: Asian :/
Gender: Female
Will need financial aid

Looking For:
-Large School
-Urban or Suburban
-Northeast
-Sports don't have to be great.
-A nice campus. Not buildings on a street, like BU or NYU. lol.
Suggestions, please!

How large? If it doesn’t have to be huge then you might have the scores for Tufts which fits the criteria. If you are willing to trade off the urban/suburban, maybe Colgate. Reaches, I guess, are obvious—Brown and UPenn. You might visit one or two small liberal arts colleges just to get a sense of them. Bowdoin, for example, feels like a small town but is really a suburb of Portland.

Holy Cross, Tufts.

Holy Cross is not really a “large school.” It would fit the bill if the OP thinks it is big enough, and if he doesn’t mind Worcester for four years (I like it).

Boston College would be a good target school. Northeastern has a nice campus in a big city (not like BU or NYU). UConn is a bit rural, but it is large and has pretty good academics with a nice campus. Providence College is a bit small, but has more of a big university feel and has some good sports.

The school doesn’t have to be huge. Size is not an extremely important factor to me. A school with good bio programs and research opportunities along with friendly and quirky people will do.

I haven’t visited Tufts or Holy Cross so I can’t say what I feel about those two.
I am sure though that BC is going to be one of my target schools. My reaches will probably be Columbia, UPenn, and Brown.

Thanks!

Hi,

You mention needing financial aid. Do you know if your family would qualify for aid?

Do you know what your likely FAFSA EFC would be?

Do you know how much your parents will contribute each year? If you don’t know, ask.

I’m asking these questions because sometimes kids say that they need aid, but in reality they won’t qualify for the aid that they would need, so what they really need is merit scholarships. So, please clarify because it makes a big difference as to which schools will work for you. :)

If you’re lowish income, then schools like Mt Holyoke might be good or other schools that give good aid to kids with stats like yours. Obviously, ivies are great for low income kids, but your stats aren’t quite high enough for a good chance.

If your family has a good income, but can’t afford to pay much for college, then there are other schools that will give you big merit for your stats.

Let us know… :)
